Review: A nice little tiny keyboard for phones - Testing the B.O.W. HB199 folding Bluetooth keyboard. Well, it’s small. Smaller than standard small keyboards. This makes it a bit difficult to use but still faster than typing on the on-screen keyboard on the iPhone 12. Some of the keys you’re used to are not present and are instead functions of other keys. The build quality seems fairly high for this type of device. The exterior case is metal and it has metal hinges for the folding part. The stand, unfortunately, does not fit my phone with its case on. I am typing this with my phone lying flat on the arms of the stand, which fold out flat to provide support for the phone which sits in a notch in these support arms. The keys are fairly nice, laptop-style keys. They are not mechanical, but are nicer than most chicklit type keys. Some of the keys are rather small, larger, like the comma key and the backspace, and the number keys. But that is all part of the sacrifice for the very small size of the keyboard. All-in-all, I like it. I like how it feels; it’s not a thumb-typing keyboard and it’s on my phone. Connecting and using it was completely painless and easy. I am currently typing this review in the notes app on my iPhone using this keyboard. If you think a small regular keyboard for your phone is something you or someone you know would enjoy, I recommend this. I have not had it long enough to determine things like the battery life or any kind of long-term use characteristics nor have I tried using it with any games. The wasd keys seem to be in a nice enough position that gaming with the keyboard wouldn’t be too bad if you also had a Bluetooth mouse for your phone. My main complaint is that my phone does not fit in the stand while in its case. That isn’t that big of a deal, and I can find ways to manage it, but it would be nice if the stand function was more useable with a variety of phone thicknesses.

Oh, and there's also a built-in stand for both the phone and iPad, eliminating the need to carry a separate one. This feature is incredibly convenient! The Bluetooth connection is fast as well. I had no trouble understanding the connection process outlined in the attached manual, and the response time is quick. Overall, it's an excellent product, and any minor drawbacks can be overlooked. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Portable, Works Great, But Some Annoyances

The keyboard is extremely portable compared to trifold kinds (I have a photo to compare them). I also like that the fold is across a row of keys so it feels a little. More stable typing across your lap. The cost of it being so small is it is MUCH smaller than a trifold portable keyboard. It is tolerable and useable for me (I’m using it now), but I wear size small gloves and so it is probably not for most man-sized hands. Some special keys are in different places, though not far from where they normally are. Things like the parenthesis I actually hit correctly where they are because the keyboard is so tiny. The use of the function key for the single and double quote is very annoying, however. That really is the only key switch that I find annoying. The shift works for other things as normal. The biggest disappointments involve the powering of the device. One is that there’s a switch on the side to turn it on and off. Why not turn off when folded and on when open? I’ll probably drain the battery faster forgetting to turn the switch to off and I’ll update on that. The second disappointment is that this is 2023 and the devices uses a micro USB charger, not a C. Considering USB-C has been out for a long time and that the EU mandates them in a short period, it is extremely annoying and it may be the dealbreaker if I decide not to keep this because I travel as a minimalist and don’t really want to carry a very old-style cable. I do love the built-in stand. This is fantastic. The whole thing sits on my lap as I write this now. It fits my phone with a case, though the case isn’t abnormally thick or anything. The angle is great for me. The stand is the best part of this keyboard for sure.
