That's easier to do when the cubes are not all the way filled. The old side to side twist crack that worked on the plastic trays isn't going to cut it with these. The trays are flexible so can be bent easily to loosen the cubes. There's no hard surface to enable the cubes to pop-out all at once into the ice bin. It's super easy to just push the cubes out from the bottom of the tray with your fingers. The cubes are dimensionally similar to the regular size rectangle only square (not significantly larger or smaller).
