## Description

Product Description The Aqua-Pure® AP817-2 Water FilterCartridge helps reduce chlorine taste and odor as well as particulate and rust, providing clearer, more appealing water throughout the whole house. The carbon filter cartridge provides a high flow for up to six months before replacement. From the Manufacturer The Aqua-Pure® AP817-2 Water FilterCartridge helps reduce chlorine taste and odor as well as particulate and rust, providing clearer, more appealing water throughout the whole house. The carbon filter cartridge provides a high flow for up to six months before replacement. The cartridge is manufactured by 3M Purification Inc., formerly CUNO Incorporated. It uses granular activated-carbon media to reduce chlorine taste and odor, has a 25-micron filtration rating for particulate reduction, and a flow rate of 20 gallons/75.7 liters per minute. The cartridge operates at temperatures from 40-100°F/4.4-37.8°C. It is for use with the following Aqua-Pure systems: AP802, AP802-1.5C. The cartridge should be replaced every six months, or sooner if a noticeable reduction in flow rate occurs.Whole-house water treatment systems range from simple canisters with disposable filter cartridges to complex systems of tanks and filters for different contaminants. A system that includes a water softener may be bypassed by a cold drinking water line to provide salt-free drinking water. Whole-house systems are typically installed immediately after water meters and well pumps, and thus may be referred to as point-of-entry (POE) systems. Depending on the filtration and treatment processes, they remove or reduce iron, particulate, chlorine odor and taste, and other chemical and biological contaminants. In doing so, they help protect plumbing and fixtures, reduce unpleasant tastes, colors and odors; and, in some cases, provide healthier water. Regular maintenance of a whole-house water filter system may be as simple as replacing a filtration cartridge every six months, or may require an annual service call. The initial expense of a whole-house water filter system often pays off in the long term, as it may protect pipes and fixtures from iron and/or hard water deposits and discoloration and provide savings in bottled water costs. For more than a century, 3M has applied innovation and technology to improving our customers’ lives and supporting their business goals. Today the company, from its headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota, serves industrial and commercial customers and consumers in nearly 200 countries. 3M Purification Inc. (formerly CUNO Incorporated), provides filtration and separation solutions for food service, science labs, residential, marine, and other applications. The 3M brand, across thousands of products, represents consistency, superior quality, and value.

Review: Great waterfilter. Great price. - We've been using Brita pitcher for years, but we knew we wanted a whole house filter for three main reasons: (1) drinking water any time from the tap and not have to wait for the Brita to refill, (2) remove chlorine from shower and bath water, and (3) remove the sediments and "crud" from our water. Ultimately it was point 3 that pushed us over the edge when city water kept clogging up your kitchen faucet and it got too tedious to get under the sink and fix the faucet one more time. We knew we didn't want a water softener: we wanted to get the crud out of our water, not add more stuff in. What we wanted was a filter: get the chlorine taste out and the crud out. We did a lot of research, and considered some of the expensive brands like the LifeSource water filter. But in addition to the cost, none of the independent research I found online indicated that they were anything but hocus pocus. Plus, I think we're talking about $2k or $3k for the filter. After looking into it, it really sounded like marketing hoo-haa with no science behind it, so we dug deeper. We opted for this one and have been very satisfied. Ultimately, though, this product is just the filter container that you hook up to the water system. The filter cartridge is a separate product and determines what you will filter out of your water. This Aqua-Pure system lets you choose between - particulate-only removal ( Aqua-Pure AP810-2 (AP802-1.5-C) Replacement Cartridge, 5 Micron Rating Water Filter ) - particulate and chlorine removal: Aqua-Pure AP817-2 Water Filter Replacement Cartridge, 25 Micron Rating . We went with the latter, and it's been great. We have to change the filter cartridge every 6 to 12 months, but at $50/pop, that's acceptable. The Aqua-Pure system is inexpensive. It was originally made by a company called Cuno which got bought by 3M. We've been very pleased with 3M products in the past, so we had confidence of the brand. And so far, it's been everything we hoped for. The water tastes great, and there's no chlorine smell, and no more clogging up of our faucets. The filter system is fairly small, so we just had it installed on the side of the house, in a convenient location to swap out filter cartridges. If you live in a cold climate, I would recommend putting it indoors to protect it from the weather. We are in California, so the side of the house is fine. The real expense is the installation that really needs to be done by a plumber. Depending how much new copper pipe you'll need (based on where you are installing it with respect to your water supply), it could run from a couple of hundred dollars in installation to over a thousand. Still, totally worth it. We are very glad we did it.
Review: Great setup for my well system - I purchased 2 of these units where I have a 20" AP810 sediment filter and a 20" AP817 carbon filter. I connected the 2 units with a 1" nipple. So far, I'm very happy with the quality of these units. A few things to point out. 1. Package comes with almost everything to install (bracket, screws, o-ring lubricant, etc.) . You only need screws to secure bracket to wall. 2. FIlter units are very beefy and somewhat heavy. Make sure they are secured properly. 3. Filter housings can stand up on their own. 4. Housings are transparent, but not crystal clear. They have a haze similar to lexan. Still very easy to see through to check condition of filter. 5. Ports are 1" all the way through. No reductions of obstructions that would reduce flow. 6. Pressure relief on top is a cap with a few small holes in the side. You unscrew it to relieve pressure or bleed air out of housing after filter change. Not as easy as the red push button you see on others, but should last a long time without leaking. 7. Housings are directional (in/out port). If installed such that water is flowing from right to left, then filter housings will be turned around, putting pressure relief cap on the backside. Makes it a little more messy to bleed. 8. I used a 1" npt nipple to connect the 2 housings together and other fittings were sharkbite. I wrapped everything in teflon tape, but did seem that I had to tighten a bit more than expected to stop all leaks. Given the size/heft of this unit, it would have been great if they added a port to install a pressure gauge, but this isn't a deal breaker. Also, if you choose to connect multiple housings with a nipple, then you may need to add a spacer (3/4" -1" plywood) between your wall and the mounting bracket. This will give you enough space to rotate the top of the filter housing to tighten the nipple if you have a leak. Without this spacer, you don't have enough clearance and you will have to remove everything and try again. I don't blame the filter for this. Its just something for you to know.
