No drivers required, at least on my linux and Windoze PC's. I picked this item up because I have access to several older monitors, very good quality display for their day, but lower resolution, and only accepting VGA input. The little monitors are perfect for DIY projects, Raspberry Pi setups, secondary displays for HTPCs or dedicated audio player setups, second little screen to display weather forecast or your stock market/cryptocurrency ticker or security camera footage...you get the idea. I've been picking up these great little used VGA monitors for around $6 each. The shopkeeper just said "no one wants anything that won't take HDMI input anymore."So, not only does this inexpensive adapter allow me to plug HDMI output into any of these VGA monitors, it even comes with a headphone jack to tap into the HD audio output that's contained within the HDMI output! There's also a micro usb port in the adapter to provide additional power, presumably for the audio jack, maybe if you wanted to listen to headphones or something. The USB power jack is not necessary for the HDMI video to VGA video to work.The overall build quality and construction feels sturdy. This doesn't feel like a cheap no-name adapter from China that's going to fail after a few weeks, intuition tells me it'll last. If I have any issues down the line, I'll report back.It more than pays for its self by making cheap displays compatible with modern hardware.FYI - this product only works in one direction: HDMI signal to VGA display. My arrangement includes two older computers running W7P and a new micro computer running W11P. I have a 4 port iOGear KVM switch that has VGA inputs/outputs. One of the W7P computers has a 1050Ti video card which has HDMI, DP and DVI ports. The micro computer has only HDMI ports.I plugged one of these adapters into the 1050Ti video card and the other adapter into the micro computer, and used on-board USB ports for power. Both were then attached to the KVM.Both work exactly as described in the write up. As I write this, I've never had any issue whatsoever in the roughly 3 weeks they've been installed.I highly recommend them and hope those that try using them have as much success as I've had. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Seems to work well, but a possible warning *by R***K on Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2022* I found the adapter to work very well when converting an HDMI signal to VGA. In fact, I discovered I didn't even need the additional 5V of power from the USB cable included. BUT, I found that out after a small surge traveled the line and fried my Wii2HDMI adapter. Now, it could have been the Wii2HDMI adapter destroying itself all on its own (it's not the best tech), but I did notice the surge happen live. This is why I unplugged the 5V of power from the USB connector on the Moread adapter.
