About half way it drops hard.** A: I do not think you can adjust the speed of the soft close (at least there are no adjustment screws and the mechanism just spins on the support before you affix the hinge arm to the lid). How fast it closes depends upon how heavy the lid is in comparison with the weight range rating of the hinge. My lid is 28 lbs. Complete waste of money and effort, now need to find a robust one to replace it with. ### ⭐ Work beautifully at first but durability questions *by T***E on 26 November 2024* Update: I changed the rating because the knobs are turning on both of the mounting plates now and hammering on the back would not make them work for any length of time. These work wonderfully to support the lid on my chest for firewood. Much better the the original ones that came with the chest that compressed a spring. However, I have some questions about quality and durability. 1. When I was attaching the plate to the cabinet I drilled pilot holes but the head on one of the four screws broke off without applying a lot of force. It broke off in the hole so I didn't try to remove it and I'm just using three screws. But I'm glad it was only one screw. 2. After a couple days it totally quit supporting the weight of the lid. (BAM!) On investigation, I found the stud had started rotating freely on the plate (see video). I was able to put it in a vise and hammer on the back with a chisel to make it tighter. I figure many people will not want to do this and I wonder how often I will have to go through this procedure... (I tested the second plate, I only had to use one support, and I can force it to rotate some with a pair of pliers and my hand, but not loose like the plate that I used a few days.
