Its been perfect to have both since our toddler is not allowed to bring a back pack to preschool they really just wanted these flimsy reusable grocery sacks for space at school. However she can bring her lunch bag which is insulated , washable, toddler durable ( No rips or tears and easy to clean ). I love that it has a zipper pouch inside where you can put ice packs to keep things cold. In Arizona summers this is a must so food does not spoil. We use the Bentgo ice packs because they are slender , hard on the outside and washable to make them easy to clean the germs off of and reuse. We put one in the zipper pouch and one under the lunchbox. We also had my mother in law embroider her name on both her Bentgo Lunch box and the Matching Backpack so it was easier to identify in a school of toddlers who may have the same print. ( By the way we never put her last name so that its not easily identified for strangers or predators to know her name or information just a tip we heard and have used it).I love the handle variety that its interchangeable and that it has a pouch on the side for her drink cup to bring to school.
