A: It can be used as  a switch as long as the voltage is 12v or less and no more than 1.2 amps,  you may be better off using a micro switch

**Q: How many years would this contact last? The wires are quite short and I don't want to have to change the contact every 5 minutes.**
A: As long as the contact remains undamaged it will last many years.

**Q: will this work with a honeywell alarm**
A: It’s just a switch, so should work with any alarm  connected to a door.

**Q: Which terminal is which. I imagine the silver screws are the contacts fixings but what are the the three gold ones any specific sequence for a loop sy**
A: The two silver screws connect internally to the magnetic normally closed reed switch, closed circuit when magnet is in close proximity. The brass screws are not connected to anything within the contact and are mainly used for connecting your tamper wires together. If you require further help, just let us know.
