As I have a policy of not putting anything identifyable to me in the recycling, this got me thinking about alternatives.The Mini Incinerator seemed to be the answer so I ordered one. It is quite small but you can easily get a load of A4 sized paper in there (at least a ream). To put the size in perspective, I have added a photo of the mini incinerator next to a 4 pack of kitchen roll.To get it going, I just screwed up a single sheet lit it, dropped it in and popped the lid on. Just to be on the safe side, I also bought some wire gauze and put that over the hole in the top to stop any ash from flying into the air (you might be able to see it in my photo) Stainless Steel Woven Wire Mesh 15cm x 15cm, 11 hole sizes / Mesh count / Aperture size. (10 Mesh)What I wasn't prepared for was how long it would take or the smoke it would produce; probably about 1 hour to burn the ream of paper and quite a lot of smoke. It never really seemed to flare up, just sort of smolder away. Although I think that may add to the smoke and time taken, it also made me more comfortable leaving it unattended.I checked the Government web site about bonfires and apparently they are legal provided they are not a nuisance. Even, so, I'm glad it was a bit windy as otherwise, I might have upset my neighbours (and I wouldn't have blamed them).By the end of my session, the handles were definitely warm but didn't burn my hands. Even so, I would probably recommend wearing gloves if you plan to move the incinerator either during or shortly after use. One word of warning, about two hours after I thought it had finished, I decided to pour the ash into a bin bag. That was when I discovered that it was still smouldering away in the middle. Fortunately I had a watering can full of water on hand which quickly extinguished the embers. However, next time I think I will wait 12 hours before emptying it!I decided to try again tonight. This time I ruffled up the paper and folded it to spread it out. I also used about half as much paper. It really 'went for it' - flames were visible for the duration and there seemed to be a lot less smoke (difficult to tell in the dark). Most importantly, it was much faster; the bulk of the paper had been burned within about 15min. The lid was also much hotter and I definitely needed gloves.Overall, I am very pleased but I suggest you check that none of your close neighbours have any washing on the line before starting it up. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mini incinerator *by M***O on 2 March 2024* I use mine all the time, it’s a great size for burning shredded confidential papers and receipts now that you aren’t allowed to put them in the recycling bin.
