Metal paper clips have more flexibility and (usually) more texturing, so they grip better than these plastic ones. The HUGE benefit of these plastic clips, for me, is that they are waterproof. There’s no rusting, no corrosion, no trying to be very very careful you don’t rub the outer coating off and expose the metal. I teach swim lessons and recently started using these clips to hold my class lesson notes—which I keep poolside or even in the water—together. The colors are vibrant and easy to distinguish. I do wish you got the same number of each color, but I understand that would be impractical for packaging. I just like when things color match. I originally ordered the medium clips only for them to be way too small. The XL ones appear a tad comically large when I hold them but look fine when I use them. (I use them to hold 4-8 sheets of 8.5”x11” paper individually laminated in 3mm pouches.)
