Review: I'd give it 10 stars if I could - Ok... if your on the fence just buy it. Give it a couple days and you'll probably love it. Me: pro photographer with published work. Professional studio, event, and commercial photographer. Professional cinematographer with award winning work, studio, film, commercial work and a feature film under my belt. Do not believe any negative reviews without trying the camera yourself. I almost didn't order the Zf based on reviews from YouTubers. Yes... control wheels (dials) are customizable. You can have shutter speed and aperture like normal without using top dials. You can assign front and back as you like ie shutter speed in front or back etc. You can customize buttons... don't like the play button on the left, just switch it to a different customizable button. Very simple in the menus. No, the menus aren't confusing if you are used to nikons menus on newer cameras. And I've used everything from nikon to Sony to lumix to fuji... and in my opinion they all have their own learning curve for deep customization. So you'll get used to this menu like you would any other company's. The grip... this will probably be the biggest issue... I love it... reviewers seem to hate it. If you've ever shot fuji cameras or rangefinder style cameras, you'll have no issue. Many reviewers say you need to buy a grip to use long lenses... I've never relied on one handed use of a camera when I have a long lens attached... but apparently some people do. In that case, grips are available and pretty inexpensive. Weight... to me it doesn't feel that it's heavy, so much as it's weight isn't as balanced as other cameras. It look me by surprise for a few seconds... but that passed quick. There's heft. But it's a well-built substantial camera. Lowlight is great! Controls are great! Build quality it great! Color out of camera is great! And yes.. the camera looks great. These days all cameras are fairly niche. You buy one because you need it's video capabilities and another for photo capabilities. At this price, there are better cameras out there for video (s5ii being one). But in my opinion... the photo quality of this camera, especially in lowlight, really stands out. The log profile is great. I can easily match it up to my a cam or use the Zf as a primary cam for film work. I'd say overall this camera is targeted at photographers. My fuji xh2 is my video workhorse... 8k internal recording etc. But that's a $2,000 body with an apsc sensor. The xh2 is great for studio photography and in good light, but suffers in lowlight... the trade off for an amazing mirrorless camera for video was poor low light photography performance. The trade off here is average megapixels, decent video... but... one amazing photography camera. Just test it out in a dark room and you'll see where this camera shines.
Review: Fantastic Camera, review from an actual photographer. - I will preface this review with my "experience." I have been shooting film for over thirty years, and digital over twenty. The main thing that denotes a good camera for my photography is if I forget what camera I am using and don't have to give it any though while taking pictures. The camera shouldn't interrupt my photography due to being over complicated or non-intuitive to use. I also prefer cameras that I can set to JPEG+RAW and I can tweak the JPEG output to my personal tastes. I shoot mainly travel/trip, landscape, and "out & about" style photography. I tend to chase light with my scenes so low light / high ISO is desired. I often shoot digital and film back to back, so if the camera can be operated like one of my film cameras - even better. I don't pixel-peep or pour over technical specs and manuals. If the camera can produce images I find visually appealing and I can spend as minimal time in post editing, I consider it a "win." My previous main digital camera kit was a Panasonic G9 with the Lumix 12-60, Olympus 40-150PRO, and Pana-Leica 100-400 lenses. This gave me a very compact and advanced camera kit with effective coverage from full-frame equivalent 24mm - 800mm. I will be keeping this kit because of the size vs reach ratio. However, I wasn't thrilled with the low light/high ISO performance of the M4/3rds sensor size (I own several other cameras that are M4/3rd as well.) I also wasn't thrilled with the amount of interaction with the camera I needed to get the shots I wanted. The G9 is a great camera - but it is a complicated one. The list of "wants" for the new camera was it needed to be a full frame (for better ISO and low light performance,) have a modern auto-focus, be adaptable to other lenses, and not get in the way of taking photos like the G9 does. The ZF accomplished all my goals, and more. The camera is well made, works for me ergonomically, and produces the results I want in camera. I have yet to delve into the "recipes" for JPEGs as I have found the ones shipped with the camera good enough with some tweaking. I can shoot the camera how I want (minimal interruptions, handles like my 35mm film cameras.) I much prefer the look/feel of the pictures from the ZF compared to my other Full Frame (Nikon D800.) I also enjoy having a dedicated B&W switch, as I often shoot B&W with my film cameras so it is nice to be able to immediately shoot B&W on both mediums back to back. I also purchased the bundle with the 40mmF2 lens. I have been entertaining by the online reception of this lens, as it has many critics - however I find that my example performs better than I expected. For the cost of the lens it is exceptionally sharp, compact, and feels perfectly fine to use. I think most of the criticism is due to it's plastic construction - but it is 2026 and plastics are fine. I think most of the people criticizing this lens are using 1954 as a reference for things made of plastic - which is silly. I purchased the FreeWell lens hood/filter set for the lens and it makes it an absolute joy to use. For the price difference between body only and body+40mmf2 IMO it is a no-brainer. Since receiving this camera I have also purchased the Nikon "S" 24-120F4 lens and the Tamron 150-500 lens to round out the "kit." I purchased adapters to mount my M42 and Contax-Zeiss 35mm lenses to the camera, and they work perfectly and the ZF makes shooting manual focus lenses a breeze. I also purchased an auto-focusing Nikon F and auto-focusing Canon EF lens adapters, and they work quite well. This makes for an extremely versatile camera. Last chapter in my novel here - is the price. This camera IMO presents an extremely high value for money. The last brand new full frame I bought was a Sony a900 (my D800 was used.) The ZF with the 40mmF2 is *half* the price (adjusted for inflation) of the a900 without lens. That is pretty awesome. If you are an actual photographer, where the images are more important than a spec sheet - this is a great camera for you. If you are a photographer who also shoots film and/or want to use older lenses - this is IMO the best camera you can get for that. Fuji gets all the hype - but this camera being a full frame, with it's usability and ergonomics and the (what I have gathered) more comprehensive "recipe" system - IMO is the better camera in it's segment.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Probably the best digital camera Ive owned overall
*by A***D on January 5, 2024*

Great camera; build quality like 80s DSLR - brass top plate and knobs, metal body. Very intuitive if you shot film back in the day - having an actual ISO dial up top along with exposure compensation is great. Autofocus is amazing (still working on optimizing that for my use). IMHO the SmallRig grip is a must; this camera is somewhat literal to the 1980s industrial design, and not the easiest to hold. The big surprise is the 40mm lens... I originally didn't love it, wide open its a hair soft... I ordered the 50mm 1.8 to compare, and it's fantastic, but a bit large, so sent back; the 40 - stopped down a bit - surpasses the 50 in sharpness.. while being a tiny, light lens. Overall a fantastic piece of kit.
