I have used several AMALINK adapters and have always been impressed with the quality and the fact that their products always seem to work as advertised and this VGA to HDMI adapter, is no different.The adapter itself is nice and compact and unlike the other AMALINK adapters I have used, the casing is made from metal. The main body of the adapter houses a standard HDMI output port (used to connect a standard HDMI cable between the adapter and your display), a Micro USB port to power the adapter and a 3.5mm audio input socket.A short cable is fixed to the opposite side to the HDMI port and has a standard DB15 Male VGA connector attatched to let you connect your input device.***** In The Box *****1 x AMALINK VGA to HDMI Adapter1 x USB Cable1 x 3.5mm Audio Cable1 x User Guide***** Installation / Usage *****Using the adapter is pretty straightforward.You need to connect the VGA connector to your video output device, such as a computer or Laptop.Then, you need to connect the MicroUSB cable to the adapter and the opposite end to a USB power supply (you can use your computer or even Smartphone wall charger).If you want to send audio to your display via the HDMI cable, you will also need to connect the supplied audio cable between the adapter and your computer’s audio output. This is specifically a ONE-WAY adaptor which takes a VGA input (the source is VGA - in my case my laptop only has a VGA output) and provides an HDMI output (my monitor doesn't have a VGA input). A "VGA to HDMI converter" search on Amazon will pull up lots of seemingly similar items but most are the other way - a laptop HDMI output to a monitor VGA input. (No doubt the more commonly required conversion!). No expert but seems the 10 or so products I looked at were ALL uni-directional.2. This will only go as high as standard HD resolution: 1920 x 1080 - known as 1080P. This may be a technological limitation of a VGA connection itself, again, no expert.3. This requires power to work. It comes with the correct lead - mini USB to USB size. The mini USB goes into the dongle and the USB size end to a power source. In the case of my laptop a USB socket is amble to power this. But note: depending on your setup (if not using a different power source) you'll need to use a USB port AND your VGA socket.Final point - it's supplied with a 1/8" t.r.s, jack to jack cable (aka headphone size 'stereo' jack) which is for bringing audio from the VGA input out of the dongle and into whatever you want to plug the audio into. (not tried this).So, a well made product that works great, and which is supplied with everything you need. But just be aware of the above in case it's an issue in your decision.
