So many other stainless steel or metal cups still have plastic handles or plastic surrounding the body of the cup. I appreciate that this one does not. There is of course plastic on the lid, but whatever. You do as much as you can.One component that drew me to this cup was that the straw is stainless steel instead of plastic or silicone.The cups barely leak when tipped over. I’ve shared a photo of the cup almost upside down in our sink. You can see only a very small amount of drops are coming out.There is silicone for the tip of the straw, but cleaning with Castile soap Somewhat regularly has helped us avoid mold growth on the inside of the straw, as well as the soapy taste left from washing silicone in the dishwasher. I would prefer plastic free, but concede that the silicone tip is safer for young children drinking from the straw, and majority of the liquid is still coming through the metal straw.Our dogs got one of the cups while we were gone, and while chewing on the silicone tip, they clamped the tip of the straw down. It looks like we will be able to reform the straw to be functional, but in the meantime, we were pleased to find that one of our own metal straws was able to fit in the lid. Our straws are much smaller then the one that comes with the cup (standard straw size), but the seal around the straw is still very good and does not really leak.The cups also come with a handy attachment for traveling where you can seal off the liquid completely. Often for us, my kids chew the soft silicone straws down long before the cup has needs replaced. But the beauty of this product is that you can replace the silicone straw covers as often as needed! And they sell packs of the silicone straw tips separately and in all the colors so you can purchase and replace as often as needed! They are not leak proof but definitely leak resistant. When I had my second baby, I just had to buy another set for her. We have used these cups so much, every single day infact. At first they don't leek. They have never leaked, around the lid, where the threads are. Over time, with the straw being pulled in and out of the hole, it gets a bit worn and will leek, if the cup is on it side but a very slow leek. It's easy to clean. I love all the attachment. I wish they sold the replacement rubbers for the straws and lids but I haven't seen any. However, I ended up buying regular size rubber straws and cut them to fit these straws and they fit beautifully.It does come with two straw rubbers for each cup. But I've had it so long, I used them all up. I just kept cutting off the bitten parts until I'd used them all up. It doesn't come with a replacement rubber, for the lid, where the straw goes. It keeps teas warm and ice drinks cold. My son's set has taken some heavy hits and it's still the best cup I've ever used with them. Very durable. Its a great price for all the attachment and things you get with this set. If I have another child I will definitely be buying another.
