## Description

Blu-ray 2D / 3D Region FREE. Film Noir from the Golden Age of Hollywood Filmmaking. Tough business tycoon Donald Whitley Carson III (Robert Ryan) tests his mettle when left to die in the Mojave Desert following a riding accident, which broke his leg. When he realises that his scheming wife Geraldine (Rhonda Fleming) and her lover Joseph Duncan (William Lundigan), his business partner, have left him to perish, he is determined to survive to wreak his revenge. Rhonda Fleming, “one of Hollywood’s coolest, prettiest villainesses” (New York Times), relaxing by a motel pool with a cocktail, contrasts starkly with her husband’s torment in the harsh desert as Ryan’s dramatic voice-over of his thoughts assesses his options and the resources he has to escape. Filmed in 3D, with breathtaking desert photography by Lucien Ballard (“Berlin Express”, “True Grit”), Hollywood Noir has never looked better than in this stunning Technicolor restoration by the late Dan Symmes, receiving its first Blu-ray release worldwide.

    Great 50S 3D.

*by V***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 September 2014*

Inferno is one of the many films made in the early 50s that were made in 3D and alas except for a few exceptions (eg House of Wax,Dial M for Murder) not many have been released in their originally intended format. Its such a shame because this Blu-ray release gives a great example of how good 50 3D could be.The technicolour photography is wonderful as well if you allow for a rare colour fading in places due no doubt due to the lack of care given to the orginal prints. All in all a great restoration of a tale of a tough business tycoon (Robert Ryan) being left to die in the desert after a riding accident by his wife(Rhonda Fleming)and his business partner (William Lundigan ) who are also lovers.Well worth the purchase,i live in hope to see many more of the 50s 3d films being released.

    Inferno 3d (1953)

If you have a 3d TV and player, you owe it to yourself to see how masterful 3d was done in the 1950's. The story, acting, and dialog wasn't too bad either. Robert Ryan is excellent as a jerk who is left to die in the desert by his wife and her lover. To make it more difficult, he has a broken leg. Don't want to say too much so I will leave it at that except to say that, once again, vintage 3d has put most modern efforts to shame and shows that you don't need an outer space theme or wizards to make good use of it. And no, I am not old enough to remember this movie when it was new.

    A rare 3-D film from the 1950s

*by G***R on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 September 2014*

Well, its nice to see another 3-D film from that short (3 year) period of the early 1950s popping up suddenly on blu-ray.In my estimation, so far, thats only the fifth release of any 3-D film from that time having had a legitimate blu-ray issue.[For the record they are "The Creature From The Black Lagoon" "Dial 'M' For Murder" "House of Wax" "Man In The Dark" and "Inferno"].When you think that some 60 films were produced in 3-D back then , it seems that enthusiasts are being sorely neglected by all of the major releasing company's.However, my own immediate desires are "Bwana Devil" - why not!? It was the first film made in the new "Natural Vision" [1952] and by an independent company at that. It had the major studio's scurrying to capitalise on its success, forging a trend we all know now became too much too soon with a Three Dimensional system far from perfect.Others I crave for immediately [no one is getting that younger!] are "Revenge of the Creature" "It Came From Outer Space" [both from Universal Picture's horror factory], "Phantom of the Rue Morgue' [Warner Bros afforded it top production value's like their "House Of Wax"] and MGM's "Kiss Me Kate" originally intended for Cinemascope, which I read is already receiving some attention in its remastering. Also rumoured are "The Mad Magician" (Columbia Pictures) and "Hondo" (Warner Bros). The "Inferno" package includes an informative little booklet, nice presentation art work very satisfactory remastering and the 3-D imaging is exemplary. While the 3-D remains always effective I found parts of the proceedings a bit uneventful, but it does have a certain originality in the way of its mood of isolation that was later utilised in such landmark television productions such as The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Robert Ryan, as the husband left to die in the desert only to seek revenge holds it altogether but I found Rhonda Fleming as the wife and William Lundigan as her lover a little patchy and lacklustre here. The soundtrack remains in mono, despite the ads of the time declaring "3-D Stereophonic Sound" Being originally a 20th Century Fox film and customary for the studio, it seems perfectly logical it did have a true stereo soundtrack. However, the sound quality here is very acceptable.
