You put the essential oil drops on the cotton disk provided, slide the tray out, put the cotton disk in the circular section of the pull out tray and turn the humidifier on as usual. Very aromatic, smell filled up our whole bedroom! **Q: can i put drops of the essential oil in tank? the discs dry out fast. no aroma** A: I understand your frustration with the aroma not lasting very long on the felt pads, as I've experienced the same problem. However, I would be concerned about the potential of build up if you were to put the oils directly into the water reservoir. I am just speculating, but I would imagine it would shorten the life span of your humidifier. Unobtrusive and pretty to put on my nightstand next to my bed. The noise is not too loud but then again I am a light sleeper so I still unconciously hear it even on low setting. The only con I would have to say is after running a full night 8-9hrs I definently will need to refill the water again for another night.
