The suction is good. At first you might have to run water to get all of the contact points to stick, but then they stay solidly stuck. Although the texture of a good rubber mat feels better on the feet, that material deteriorates faster. With this plastic one, the various shapes in the design might be less than optimal as far as comfort goes, but they're definitely needed to provide some level of traction.
