When installing it make sure you install it near where your foot rests normally when you're standing in front of the sink. if you have to reach over in one direction or the other it'll be difficult to release the lock and get the switch engaged. Other than a little bit of a learning curve this is a fantastic solution that keeps everything nice and neat. you can barely see the toe kick switch under the cabinet and I didn't have to do any extensive work to install a switch for the garbage disposal. since the house had never had a garbage disposal there was no switch or outlet near the sink that I could have used so I would have had to do a full install of a switch to have a wall switch. Once you learn how to use it it's the coolest little switch in the world. You just have to take a little time and understand there is a little bit of a learning curve as your foot develops muscle memory. That doesn't look right when looking at the photos. The toe kick space under my cabinets is about 1"** A: That might be the dimensions of the box not the switch. It's hard for me to measure my own switch while it's installed but it's about 8" long by 4" high and 2+" thick. The thickness or depth of the switch was the most limiting aspect for me because my cabinet toe kick area isn't standard. You need about 2" (maybe a bit more) in the channel above the toe kick area measured from the back of the toe kick wall to the back of the cabinet face (where the switch would slide up into the channel). My cabinet's channel width was only 1.75". The channel height on my cabinet is about 7/8" so it's less than the 1" you measured on your's. You should be fine if you have enough depth in the channel to slide the switch up and in. The height should not be a problem for you. In my case, the depth was too large and would not have fit without a modification to the casing of the switch (which worked in my case but it was very to not working out for me). So far it's been great! **Q: Do you have to hold the button down to run the disposal? Or wil it stsy on with one push of the button and turn off with the second push?** A: Mike, The switch activates the disposal with constant upward foot pressure on it. When you release the pressure the disposal turns off. It gives the user better control by not having to reach twice to operate the switch to both turn it on and off. Mark **Q: My garbage disposal is hard wired. can i change out my gd power cord?** A: Yes, just hire an electrician to disconnect the disposal "hard wires" and wire up a replacement plug. OR, go to a hardware store and buy a repair plug, shut off the power and do it yourself.
