Review: Thankful To Find This Gem! - I love this sleeve. I have found nothing else like it anywhere and I searched everywhere! Our dog had surgery 3 weeks ago and his wound is on his upper thigh. Not one bandage stayed up, not even the vet's. I ordered the sleeve and waited for desertcart to have it back in stock and now ordering my second so I can wash one. We were changing the bandages every day up to four times a day. His staples came out due to too much energy. He's 14, but would not just lie down. Finally after the second surgery, the staples came out again and we decided to do wound care. I am telling you, there is not once that the bandages stayed up until we got this sleeve. I did add an ace bandage around his waist to make sure the ties are attached, but I now know that is not necessary. The string is plenty long enough to reach is collar. I did get a harness, but it's not necessary, yet. The other two ties go around his middle section. I bought a medium and it fits him well. He a 40 pound dog. I am in caretaker heaven right now! I highly recommend this product!
Review: What I wish I knew.... - I bought this for my dog (~40lbs beagle mix) to wear after TPLO surgery instead of the cone. I had looked everywhere for something to cover up the stitches and I narrowed it down to this and one of the full-body suits. I ended up going with this because I figured getting the full suit on would be very difficult. What I wish I had known (or I guess thought about ahead of time) was that when I would bring my dog home from the hospital, her leg would be VERY swollen so while we tried this on ahead of time and it fit perfectly, I couldn't get it on her leg until a few days after surgery. Not the end of the world since for the first two days all she did was sleep but after that it would have been perfect except for the fact that it WOULD NOT STAY ON. Even when it was tied correctly and attached to her collar (or her harness), the second she'd start walking or rolling around in her bed it came down. Bottomline, I love the concept but this just didn't work for us. It would be perfect if it went over both rear legs and tied to her collar but this design just did not work for us and I so wish it had.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How are you out of the large sizes? that's like my local bar being out of bud light!!! dilly dilly.**
A: Just want to say that while my dog’s measurements technically put him closer to a larger size, I chose one size smaller and it was perfect! As long as the actual solid sleeve part safely covers above and below the wound / incision, the straps and the lower leg Velcro closure are highly adjustable- especially the straps!!! They are stretchy and quite long enough to tie them either tightly or loosely (for walking around vs. sleeping. SO if your dog’s measurements run somewhat in between sizes, at least in our case the larger would have been too big while the smaller was just right. I’m not positive but I believe I bought a medium instead of a large for an 80 pound Golden Retriever. In my opinion it’s worth buying this brand because it’s way better than all the alternatives available that we saw - it is the only one that actually would NOT fall down or get out of place (due to the highly adjustable stretchy strap placement) or ride up on the leg (due to adjustable Velcro closure). Hope you get what you need!

**Q: I measured higher up on the thigh than the diagram. Is this correct?**
A: My best answer is that you want the bottom of it to be at least a few inches below the "knee"(depending on your type / size of dog) so it hits at the thinner part of the dog's leg; it secures down there with adjustable velcro; I don't know where your dog's wound is but even if it is up higher, it cannot hurt to have the lower part with the velcro closure down by the "ankle" so it does not ride up. I had a 75 pound Golden Retriever and I followed the instructions and diagram for measuring and the size worked perfectly. The devise is stretchy and the ties are stretchy so there is a lot of flexibility in adjusting it. If you tie the string to the collar too tightly, you will see it pulling the collar too much and especially, when you tie the part around the abdomen, be sure you are not impinging on any organs. If you dog is just lying in one place or sleeping for the night with supervision, you can make the ties looser. This thing really stays on it is the only thing that did work for me. Bottom line, I would NOT measure higher up on the thigh than the diagram shows -- you need the bottom part lower down than the thigh - it needs to hit at the narrower part of the leg so the dog cannot push it up; plus the diameter of the velcro bottom probably would be too small to go around the knee area. Best of luck in both the long and short term with your pup!

**Q: People have asked this but not gotten a good response yet: where on the thigh is the measurement made? Or, what part of the device are they measuring?**
A: The measurement should be made around the highest point of the back leg up to the belly. We also suggest rounding up to the next size if the sizing falls in between two sizes.

**Q: what is the length of the two leg sizes?**
A: The large measures at 22" and the x large is at 24". My dog measures almost 26" from floor to hip. They both fit him, but the XL fits him better. It has more room on the under part of his leg. I rolled the cuff up on both of them and used safety pins to secure them. They tend to work their way down under his foot. The tie strings are holding up nicely, that kind of surprised me. Lol. I have been taking it on and off at least 4 times per day for walks. The stitching on the raised reflective strip came loose in the washer. That doesn't bother me because it does not interfere with the function. So, hand wash if needed and hang to dry. :) I will reccomend this product and would buy it again if needed.
P.S. I am in cold country, so on the XL one I cut some wool to the shape and hot glued it into place for his walks and such. I use the L for warmer days. :)

### ⭐⭐⭐ Straps are bad
*by K***E on March 21, 2024*

This works well for covering a total hip replacement surgical site. However, the strings aren't at all elastic, and that's required to move with the dog. I cut them off, and sewed on suspenders to the outside of the sleeve (to reduce friction on the wound). I then clipped the suspenders onto a soft headband around the neck. Elastic is almost required for this, so surprised they aren't. Otherwise it's the right shape for a dog leg.
