It's two mats and they aren't *exactly* the same size but I don't mind at all. I put cheap shelf liner strips under these to hold them in place on the floor a little better, seems to work alright. The rushes do smell strongly and not in a good way at first, but as the mats air out it's not so bad, it even mixes with my floral reed diffuser somewhat pleasantly. I expect it'll get more subtle with time. They're smooth and relaxing. My favorite thing is that they really complete my living room space, it's perfect for sitting on the floor with my knitting and tea when I want to decompress. I'm really glad I decided to get these instead of just sitting on the floor, even if it's only a little padding it clearly designates the space for relaxing purposes only.
