Review: This is one kitchen gadget I will keep using - Now firmly in middle age I’m a staunch anti-gadget gal. One task gadgets better earn their place in my tiny kitchen or they’re banished to the basement cabinet forever. That cabinet is getting full so I try hard not to buy kitchen gadgets. I’m talkin’ to YOU air fryer! Not buying one I don’t care how many people rave about them they’re next years instant pot sitting lonely in a corner unused. I do love an egg & toast in the morning though and drive up can make me late as well too expensive for daily breakfasts. So I bought this egg sandwich maker. I really like it. I tried it with bread, biscuits and want to try with croissant and mini bagels in the future. I use whole egg and break the yolk. I crudely trim the bread to fit-a nice firm rye, whole wheat or sourdough works best but soft works too. I tried using very lightly buttered bread facing out and I prefer that way though it smells up the kitchen like fried food. Using dry bread is okay too but I like a thin smear of butter. Add a slice of cheese and ham if I have it and its a great cheap breakfast. Quick, too. I turn it on to preheat and cook the sandwich as I feed the dogs, then wrap in a pc of foil and get dressed for work. They’re pretty hot straight out of the machine so I like to wait a little while to eat it, some days I just eat it at work. One thing I don’t like is scrambling the egg, it comes out weirdly fluffy like a soufflé. I prefer my scrambled eggs softer and more curd-like if that makes sense and they’re not to my spoiled taste so I just do a whole egg w/a broken yolk so I don’t wear my yummy breakfast. Yes I could fry an egg on the stove in about the same time BUT this is so easy, no dish/pan to wash, just wipe the plates and its clean. Also its basically no effort, similar to making a pot of coffee imo. And I’m not paying over $3 for one egg, a pc of cheese and 2 pc bread. My cost is well under a dollar and its fresh and exactly the way I like it. Highly recommend this. One last thing-if anyone out there knows where to get a soft english muffin like mcds uses I’d be forever in your debt. Or a recipe. The english muffins in my area (Michigan) aren’t soft and squishy they’re tougher and chewier and I love them toasted to death but this egg sandwich maker only warms the outside obv doesn’t toast the inside. We have Thomas, Bays and have tried Wolfermans, I want that soft white bread style mcds uses.
Review: This thing is so stupid. I love it. - Yes, of course this is an absurd one-off speciality kitchen appliance. Of course you don't need it. Of course it's just going to take up space on your counter. Of course you can just make a breakfast sandwich yourself using your stove. But to look at it strictly from this perspective completely glosses over how convenient this thing is. Is the convenience worth the embarrassment of not just manually assembling things? Of course it is. Let's be honest here - the competition for this contraption is not you toasting your english muffin, poaching an egg, and frying up some sausage to assemble into a sandwich. The competition is not having breakfast. Or just running to McDonald's because it's so much simpler. So I'll admit it - I'd frequent McD's for a sausage mcmuffin with egg. I'd also frequently have an energy bar or a donut or some other basically junk breakfast. I have manually made egg sandwiches by cooking and assembling the ingredients, but that's more of a special occasion thing - it just took too much time. Even if it was 5-10 minutes of cooking/assembling, it was time that I was _actively_ working on it. And I'm lazy/busy, so it was always a low priority. Even when I got the ingredients, I'd tend to do it once and then let the english muffins get moldy over the next few weeks as I didn't do it again. Not to mention washing all the pans. But this thing changed everything - I'm literally making one of these every day for breakfast. And it's delicious. I pick my own high grade eggs, good quality butter, the english muffins I like, a good cheese. it's all fresh and it tastes way better than the fast food version. And it's basically no effort - it's a few minutes to pre-heat it (and you do other things during that), 30 seconds to assemble on the machine, 5 minutes to cook (again, do other things), a few minutes to cool (again, do other things), and you eat. It's awesome. If you're looking at this thing and reading this review, you're debating it as well. I'm sure you're doing the same mental gymnastics I did - it's a waste of money, it's a speciality item, I could just do it by hand, why would I bother buying this device when I know how to make eggs on the stove, etc. But the much more important question to ask yourself is - When was the last time you did any of that? If you're assembling your own sandwiches made on your stove with regularity, then by all means continue to do so - you absolutely do not need this. But if you're not...then get it. Tossing these things together quickly and getting something really tasty with basically no effort is FAR better than going out for something or not making it at all. You're not competing with the prospect of making it on the stove - you're competing against the prospect of not doing it at all. It's okay. Just buy it even though it's ridiculous. You'll really enjoy it. The one thing I really don't like about it is its lack of a switch - you have to unplug it to turn it off. So pick up a cheap outlet switch as well so you can plug the cooker into that and flip it on/off at the wall instead of plugging/unplugging. They really should add a switch to the unit.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do I cook the egg and bread separately?**
A: You cook everything together. This is my biggest issue with the device. There are only 2 separate cooking chambers. The bread is not kept separate from the wet ingredients during cooking. You put meat, cheese, etc directly on top of bottom piece bread. As the food cooks the juices run down into the bottom piece of bread which results in a very well cooked outside of the bread but a soggy slimy inside. In the top chamber you add egg and then lay the other piece of bread directly on top of the raw egg. It’s gross. This machine would be great if the bread was separated from the wet ingredients.

**Q: Why not just cook your egg in a small frying pan and assemble the sandwich yourself, and have less to clean? What is so special about this product?**
A: 1. It's like an automatic coffee maker: you just put the ingredients in & 5 minutes later you have a perfect breakfast sandwich! 2. It's incredibly easy to clean up - just put the ring in the dishwasher and wipe the rest with a damp cloth. Easier than a frying pan. 3. Perfect when you don't have a stove: dorm room, RV, boat, traveling, etc. 4. When it's hot out & you don't want to fire up the stove, this makes a quick hot breakfast without heating up the kitchen. 5. It makes all kinds of sandwiches, not just breakfast sandwiches! We make lunch sandwiches, deserts, pancakes & eggs, the works. If you need examples of how versatile this is, check out this cookbook: https://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-Breakfast-Sandwich-Cookbook-ebook/dp/B01K0VOQBM/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1476917694&sr=1-1&keywords=hamilton+beach+breakfast+sandwich+maker+cookbook

**Q: Difference between 25475A and 25475**
A: The only difference between the two is their packaging. 25475A model ships in its original container, whereas the 25475 ships in Amazon packaging.

**Q: does it take a lot of electricity to run?**
A: Rated at 600 watts , It takes .6 kWh to run for an hour. That's slightly over a half a kilowatt hour. That's how you buy electricity by the kWh. You need to know how much you pay for electricity to know what it would cost you to run. But, for example. If electricity in your area is .13 a kWh it would cost you about one half a kWh or one half of .13 , which is .065 cents to run this appliance for a whole hour. Since you use it for 5 minutes to make 1 sandwich, the cost to make one sandwich is negligible. Put a different way. It would cost .065 cents (slightly over a nickel) to make 12 sandwiches.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect sandwiches every time.
*by M***S on October 2, 2014*

Great product, after reading some other reviews it seems people just don't follow instructions. unit MUST be pre-heated. if that egg's not cooking when it hits that tray, it WOULD leak. I say would, because I follow instructions and have used this grill preheated every time and had ZERO issues. spray a bit of cooking spray into the egg compartment and when you rotate out the divider, it slides right off with zero issue or mess. Have your sandwich ready to go! don't put in the bread, then dig around for cheese, take your time placing meat etc. that's how people end up with burnt on the bottom sandwiches. 5 minute pre-heat, 5 minute cook time is perfect as long as the entire sandwich gets an even 5 and not Bottom gets 6-8, egg and top get 5...I have the bottom pre-built so all I have to do is drop it in, close the egg tray, crack an egg, break the yolk, place the top and close. anywhere from 15-20 seconds from empty to the whole sandwich in and cooking. it came in yesterday, used it a grand total of 4 times so far and 4 perfect breakfast sandwiches that put the fast food places to shame. (I don't pour my eggs from a bottle) Dice up some green pepper and onion to pour into the egg tray, maybe some bacon bits and have a mini omelette on top of your breakfast sandwich. I've been making my own breakfast sandwiches for years and this just simplifies the entire process. the unit will pay for itself using less energy than the stove and using less hot water for clean up and washing pans. if you use the cooking spray it cleans up with a wipe from a paper towel so it doesn't need washing as frequently. a couple accessories that help, a plastic fork for puncturing the yolk: you don't want to ever use metal on non stick. (normally That goes without saying, but we already have people using it without heating it up first so.. yeah.....no metal.) and one of those plastic mini spatulas (I grabbed a spare from one of my old foreman grills, perfect for taking up the sandwich) not sure why items like that weren't included, but that's why it got 4 stars instead of 5. that and I think it should have come with a built in 5 minute timer, small details like that would make this a perfect 5 star item.
