Review: A Masterpiece Reborn – Silent Hill 2 on PS5 is Incredible - As a long-time fan of the Silent Hill series, I was beyond excited to see Silent Hill 2 remastered for the PS5, and it does not disappoint. The game looks absolutely stunning on the PS5, with enhanced visuals and a level of detail that brings the eerie atmosphere to life like never before. The graphics are breathtaking, from the foggy streets of Silent Hill to the unsettling character models, creating a truly immersive experience. The gameplay feels as engaging and haunting as it did when the original was first released, but with smoother controls and an upgraded sound design that adds even more tension. The iconic soundtrack and sound effects are sharper and more immersive, enhancing the chilling atmosphere of the game. The story, of course, is just as gripping as ever. It’s a perfect blend of psychological horror and mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. If you’ve played the original, this version is a beautiful update that stays true to the core elements while making everything feel fresh for new players. Overall, Silent Hill 2 on PS5 is an absolute must-play for both fans of the series and newcomers to the franchise. It’s a true horror masterpiece, and the remaster does it justice in every way. Highly recommend!
Review: An absolute chilling feast for the senses, Bloober Team succeeds in this triumphant remake. - As an avid fan of the Silent Hill series - especially the second and third entries - and after viewing the rather shaky & misleading trailers Konami had fronted for this game in recent months, it was safe to say I was very skeptical about this remake. The fact that Bloober Team were at the helm of development didn't bother me too much, despite their library in my opinion varying in quality. They certainly know how to nail an atmosphere and provide intriguing depth with their storytelling (see Observer and The Medium for example). Nevertheless, I consider the original Silent Hill 2 a masterclass in atmospheric & psychological horror, it draws every last ounce of colour from your face as you pace through the murky depths of a desolate town. I've just hit the credits on my first playthrough, and it exceeded all of my expectations by a country mile. It is without hyperbole, one of the scariest games I've played to date. Genuinely gets under your skin in ways that many modern horror games cannot, the sense of dread and anxiety is palpable throughout. With the legendary Akira Yamaoka back in the recording studio, this was always going to be a good sign and he delivers yet another beautiful, haunting soundtrack that is the bread and butter of this series. Pair this with some clever use of the DualSense features and you're in for a real treat. I will say this, it's certainly not perfect - I did find a few sections somewhat bloated. A couple of the puzzle sections do make you jump through some weird hoops and the fat could have been trimmed in these areas. Story beats are more elongated which does make for a better building of the player's understanding of the characters, however newer players may find this as an excuse to pad out the games length just for the sake of it. Furthermore, this is is also a rather long game for this genre. I clocked out at around 17 hours; this includes exploring most maps in their entirety (and I still missed collectibles!), walking most of the time indoors and cutscenes. So as you can expect, the desire to dive right back in after completion is quite the up taking, especially when you consider there's also 8 different endings (!) compared to the originals 6, and that the game is incredibly bleak and mentally draining. Don't expect the combat to be the likes of Resident Evil or even most horror games these days. Whilst it has been modernised - for the better in my opinion - it is still very clunky, as James is ultimately just an everyman looking for his wife, so his fighting skills are mediocre at best. This is in keeping with the original game and it certainly influences how you take on enemies throughout the game. You never feel powerless, but you also never feel like you've got the upper hand. Silent Hill 2 grabs a hold of you and does not let go. Sure, you'll get some reprieve through the puzzle solving, reading of the cryptic, sometimes disturbing memos on your path and soaking up the cutscenes, but it enshrouds you in its suffocating fog and makes your blood run cold. You're never truly safe, you'll never always find out what that noise was, and there's more to James Sunderland than meets the eye. Newcomers to this series may struggle initially I would say, due to its portrayal of certain themes, characters and style of storytelling. Some of the negative reviews may illustrate this and I think they may also forget that this series is well over 20 years old, with its formula feeling rather archaic in an current age of war FPS's, Free-to-Plays and Minecrafts, but I'd still highly recommend it to anyone new looking for a truly disturbing video game experience. There's tons of easter eggs and subtle nods to the hardcore fans of the series too. It really does deliver on all fronts in my opinion, like I said, my only real qualms would be with the length of the game overall. It can honestly be quite intense & exhausting, in a good way though! Every horror fan should indulge in this remake to get a real sense of what we've been missing from this franchise for well over a decade now, Bloober Team really did knock it out of the park and I hope they get the recognition they deserve at this year's Game Awards. Play this game at night, with your lights off, and your headphones on for the best possible experience. Welcome back to Silent Hill. 9/10

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Superb Remake
*by M***S on 10 September 2025*

I admit I wasn't the biggest fan of the original on the PS2 and only managed to get a few hours in before switching to another title and forgetting to return. Therefore, this remake was the perfect opportunity to give this game another chance. Im so happy I did because it was such a great experience with loads of satisfying and tense moments. If you are brave enough, I recommend playing at night with headphones the atomosphere and creepy vibe maintained throughout the game is unmatched. The pacing might not be for the more action heavy fans but this is a survival horror at its best. No spoilers but there are multiple endings to unlock and I was very satisfied with the one I received. One cool detail is the reverse cover has the artwork from the original PS2 title (See images)
