I only ever need to balance while securing it, I never feel like I need to hold it in place. Just balance. Once the handle bars are secured the rear is super easy. The trick to loading and securing anything is having the carabiner ratchets. I also have them set to the length I need so I’m not bumbling around hook and ratchet boom done **Q: how wide is the inside of the carriers track? The product discription says 7 inches, but some reviewers say more like 5.** A: Yeah I would say from the outside is 7 inches and the inside is more like 5.
