Also it's so flexible thanks to the quality of sheath and also the thinness of the strands in each wire. So for example, you could have two 12AWG solid copper wires in each half of the cable, or you could have many little ones that add up to 12 gauge. The more thin ones that are used, the more flexibility but also better conductivity because of the skin effect (current flows preferentially on the surface of the wire so solid wire is less efficient.
