The finish is all up to you, select a couple of colors of stain that you think will give you the look that you want, use a Q-Tip or similar item and apply the stain to the backside of the grip and check your results there. Once you find a color that you like apply in in a series of applications, follow the manufactures recommendations for application of the stain and then seal the color with a high quality polyurethane semi gloss clearcoat, two or three coats will deliver the depth and protection that you are looking for. Stain and clearcoat the entire grip, front and back, sides, top and bottoms to prevent moisture damage from your sweaty palms.
