The author claims to have translated this himself.  He obviously doesn't speak English at a competent enough level for such an endeavor.  Here is a paragraph I picked at random:Author mentioned in the previous chapter the booming period in the film industry and the praise of Soviet films in the West during the "Thaw." Young Andrei stood in the doorway of this world just that time, so we can easily imagine how much passion he had for cinema. Though at first he had decided to go to Film School by chance, before its graduation he tried to express himself through film. According to the chronology written by his sister Marina, Andrei's diploma film "Roller and Violin" (middle-length of only 46 minutes) was made over one year including screenplay writing. Since 11 months had passed from the beginning of shooting to its completion. His graduation is dated March 1961. Indeed, according to "Film Encyclopedia" published in the Soviet Union in 1987, Andrei graduated in 1961, a year later than his classmate Vasily Shukshin.
