## Description

Utilizing a custom-formulated stone-derived coating from Germany, the Stone Frying Pan by Ozeri reigns with its ability to deliver non-stick perfection while remaining absolutely free of toxic substances such as APEO, GenX fluorinated chemicals, PFBS, PFOS, PFOA, and the lesser known NMP and NEP. According to the FDA, many of these chemicals constitute a worrisome class of nonstick compounds that have found their way into the food chain, including grocery store meats and seafood. Both the EPA and FDA have conducted toxicology research on exposure to some of these compounds that suggest associations with several kinds of cancers and health issues. Although the harmful PFOA and PFOS acids are being phased out of production, non-stick coatings today are often made with the aid of a new generation of fluoropolymers, known as GenX fluorinated chemicals and PFBS, which the EPA has more recently cited as suggestive of cancer and when consumed, may affect the kidneys, blood, immune system, liver and developing fetuses. Also of concern are APEO chemicals, which are restricted in Germany due to environmental concerns and toxicity in the food chain. By not using any of these ‘forever chemicals,’ the Stone Pan's coating stands ahead of the curve, achieving the highest marks for food safety and environmental health. In addition, the Stone Pan’s coating is applied using a water-based technique that is also free of the lesser known but potentially harmful chemicals NMP and NEP, sometimes found in cookware. The Stone Pan is far more durable and scratch-resistant than other non-stick surfaces, and always a breeze to clean. The Stone Frying Pan is made of a heavy-gauge aluminum core that allows for fast and even cooking without hot spots. It boasts a magnetized bottom for rapid heat transfer on induction stoves, and a heat-resistant silicone-coated handle. Coating made by Weilburger GmbH, Germany. Pan assembled in China.

Review: This is the non-stick pan you're looking for (two year review) - After having this pan for two years and reading some of the one-star reviews, I decided to leave a review of my own in order to dispel some false notions. As someone who relies on reviews a lot, I really dislike it when customers leave one-star reviews because they misused or even abused the product. And many of the one-star reviews I saw were clearly the customer's fault and not the pan's. I also read through some of the Q/A and saw some fairly egregious misinformation, which I will also address. 1. If you use this pan properly, the surface will NOT get scratched or nicked. The pictures of pans with scratches and nicks are from people who cooked with tools made of metal or hard plastic. The only material you should use to cook on non-stick surfaces is SILICONE. It is both soft and highly resistant to heat. I've been using a silicone spatula for two years and my pan's surface is virtually unscathed. 2. If you use this pan properly, the surface will not stain. The pictures of pans with stains on them is from carbon deposits that only form when food is exposed to really high temperatures for extended periods of time. I actually did this to another non-stick pan I own from the same company. I walked away while I was cooking bacon and forgot I left it there. Came back and the bacon was burnt to hell, which left some black stains on the pan's surface. Those black stains are carbon deposits. Harmless, but unsightly. At any rate, it was entirely my fault, not the pan's. 3. Yes, you can cook with this pan in the oven. No, the handle grip will not melt or deform if you put it in the oven unless you crank the heat WAY up. The handle grip is made from silicone, which, as I mentioned earlier, is highly heat resistant. One of the main reasons silicone is used in cooking is because it doesn't melt or deform under high temperatures. I've only tested the pan up to 350 degrees F (177 C), so I cannot vouch for anything beyond that. But I can tell you that most silicone is rated to withstand temperatures between 390 F (200 C) and 446 F (230 C). 4. There is no need to wash this pan with soap or to put it in a dish washer. As long as you rinse it out while it's still hot, the pan basically cleans itself. Whatever is left inside the pan will simply slide out along with the water. Then dry it with something soft, like a cloth or paper towel. If there is still a thin layer of oil on the pan after you rinse and dry it, don't worry about it. It will not hurt the pan or you. What am I basing this on? Two years of using the pan almost every day. And the pan has performed nearly perfectly throughout the entire time and shows little sign of degrading. The only real issue I've encountered so far is that food can sometimes stick to the metallic rivets that hold the handle in place, but that is the only real problem I've encountered so far, and it's a relatively easy problem to deal with. Overall, the pan has been fantastic. As long you understand how to take care of non-stick cookware and how to use it, this pan will serve as a workhorse in your kitchen for years and years to come.
Review: Cooks evenly and cleans up easily - Great value for the price. Get the lid, too, and maybe replace a couple of silicone implements, just for the cheer of cooking with new tools. All for less than $50. We have been using this as a multi-purpose skillet in a specific scenario w limited cooking facilities for a couple of months. I’m not sure about durability or performance if we blast the temp up high (not recommended for any nonstick, anyway). What I do know is we have even heat distribution and wonderful nonstick. We’ve actually bought two of these, one after acknowledging we needed a new non-stick skillet and another after our kitchen was quickly dismantled and packed away following a water leak under the floor. We’ve been using it several times a week on a portable induction cooktop in our temporary housing and have been pleased. It happens to be induction-compatible, but fine w other burners as far as I know. When our house is back in order, I’m passing this along to a friend who cooks little and doesn’t have a decent skillet in the house. After deciding our existing 10” All-Clad was ready for retirement, I read a NYT wirecutter skillet review and thought we’d give it a try. This inexpensive skillet was their favorite induction compatible, so we just waited a couple of months til it was back in stock. Perhaps it won’t last as long as the $200 biggie acanpan or all-clad, but we handle the nonstick skillets properly and we’ll see. (Yes, I know the Cooks Illustrated fav AC has a “lifetime” guarantee, but it appears some kitchen helper or guest used metal utensils, which zaps the warranty.) Other users have emphasized that instructions recommend against high heat. I use induction so this is not an issue for me, but keep in mind that no nonstick pan is recommended for high heat, nor are you going to produce a fond for certain cooking applications. It’s not cast iron, stainless, or carbon steel, any of which you can blast away for stir fry, browning, or pop in the oven. It didn’t require seasoning like those either, so there are always trade offs. My dream skillet is probably one of those $400 blue steel hand-forged ones from Seattle, but this is just right for a multi-purpose nonstick pan. NOTE: I recommend you buy the glass lid at the same time. I’ve always been sorry we didn’t do that when we bought other expensive pans, mainly because I’m always trying to figure a lid fit when I need one.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is in this coating? Any related Teflon related chemicals indirectly. I have parrots which can be easily killed by any type of Teflon from related products.**
A: I emailed Ozeri asking if their Greblon coated Earth Stone pans were PTFE free & this was their response:Dear Erin,Thank you for contacting us regarding the Ozeri Frying Pans. We are more than happy to assist you at this time. Unfortunately, this specific pan is not PTFE free. However, we do ensure that the pans are safe and won't run the risk of harming the customer.Pyrolysis of PTFE is detectable at 200 °C (392 °F), and it evolves several fluorocarbon gases and a sublimate. An animal study conducted in 1955 concluded that it is unlikely that these products would be generated in amounts significant to health at temperatures below 250 °C (482 °F).While PTFE is stable and nontoxic at lower temperatures, it begins to deteriorate after the temperature of cookware reaches about 260 °C (500 °F), and decomposes above 350 °C (662 °F). The degradation by-products can be lethal to birds, and can cause flu-like symptoms in humans—see polymer fume fever.Meat is usually fried between 204 and 232 °C (399 and 450 °F), and most oils start to smoke before a temperature of 260 °C (500 °F) is reached, but there are at least two cooking oils (refined safflower oil at 265 °C (510 °F) and avocado oil at 271 °C (520 °F)) that have a higher smoke point. Our pans are designed to be used with low to medium-high heat and never exceed a certain temperature setting. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.Thank you and have a wonderful day!Regards,Chris WOzeri Customer Service

**Q: Has anyone used more than the recommended amount of oil or butter in the pan? Any problems? I like to fry my eggs in healthy grass fed butter.**
A: Hi, I do too. The pan gets hot quickly so the only problem I can see would be from overheating the butter. Just keep temp down enough to cook. You don't want to turn your good grass fed butter into a trans-fat from over heating it. I make eggs everyday in my pan.

**Q: Can this go in the dishwasher?**
A: According to the instructions that came with the pan, no. I never put my pans in the dishwasher anyway, so this wasn't a deal breaker.

**Q: Does anyone know what is the difference in this pan vs ceramic?**
A: Don't really know - guess I've never had a ceramic pan! I do like this "stone" pan a lot. You don't ever put it on high heat but after it is heated it holds the heat. We fix great steaks in it, brown & cook chicken cutlets wit breading, etc. but also can sauté vegetables beautifully. It is a bit heavy for me sometimes but I wish I had a slightly larger one - although this will cook 2 rib eyes at once. Why don't you try it?

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Buy this pan! NO REGRETS!
*by J***N on August 9, 2017*

I had no idea what it was like to have a good frying pan. I have NO WORDS! Except for the following: This is one of my favorite things I've ever purchased! I can't wait to cook with it every night! I prep all my food, and the moment I realize it's time to get the pan, I glide over to the pantry like a Disney princess and feel actual love every time I see it there, ready for anything. I have used it even when I know I have too much stuff for the size of this pan just because I love using it! First of all, the clean up. What clean up? This pan basically cleans itself! I scrambled eggs on it and by the time I was done eating, the egg remains that are usually encrusted to the bottom --even on other non stick pans!-- literally flake right off! Obviously, I still wash with soap, but it is visibly clean without a drop of water! Second of all, way way less oil! I haven't tried it yet, but I'd wager I could cook anything on here without a drop of oil and it would cook fine without sticking. Everything I use oil with basically just pushes the oil away and slides around beautifully without it. Much healthier! Let's also not forget about how stunningly beautiful it is! I was looking for a non teflon pan, and if you read the other comments there's some dispute about this. Seems to me that this is better than a teflon pan, but not quite as safe as say, ceramic. The directions clearly state this pan is not to be used over med-high, where degradation begins and safety is compromised, but it's fine since supposedly the pan conducts heat better and actually can be used at lower temps than recipes call for. I have tried this in small degrees to test out and haven't had any problem keeping the temp down a tad. I will continue to lower and see how it does, but being new to cooking, I'm already scared enough to mess up, so straying from recipes scares me a little! I will for sure eventually purchase additional sizes of this pan and replace all my old teflon ones. For now, this has been super diverse and literally surpassed my expectations beyond my wildest imagination!
