I lift it up and hook it to the wire inside the cage and set it back down. But they are really designed to fit on the outside of the cage. The bottom is supposed to slide into a hole in the wire and hook the feeder to the side of the wire. The front flat part you see is supposed to sit against the wire with the open feeder sticking inside the cage through a hole. That way you can fill it from the outside-lift the lid, pour feed in, and shut the door. But, we get way too much rain here for me to do that. So, I hook mine on the inside of the cage. In the morning I pour feed into the front trough. **Q: Can this be mounted through the wall of an exotic nutrition mansion? the verticle bars are about 4 15/16", slightly narrower than the 5" stated width.** A: We mounted this in a ferret cage that houses our chinchillas. Slats are about 1 1/1"-2 inches apart. It has hooks that can grasp onto just about anything. We then ziptied it outside the cage for more security. It's working really well for our chinchillas who were purposefully knocking over their food bowel. **Q: Does the water bottle and feed pan come with it?** A: Unsure why you are asking this question, as there is no water bottle or feed pan listed with this hanging feeder. **Q: Is it possible to mount this feeder to an interior wall?
