There are no installation instructions but it's all common sense and there's a few You Tube videos out there to show you what to do. The safe itself fits exactly between two studs. IMO - Having a good stud finder made all the difference. I purchased a JAXWQ stud finder on desertcart and it worked great. Also, I added a 2X4 on the bottom for the safe to sit on while installing the screws into the studs. Use a level to make sure everything is straight. The safe is no frills but solid. Installing the batteries and passcodes was easy. So overall, there were no surprises on install which I appreciate. You really can't go wrong with this safe for the price point. The safe is burglary resistant. Putting items in an asbestos bag will not protect them from heat so do not let anyone sell you on that idea. There are no truly fireproof safes on fire resistant safes and then they are only rated for certain types of fires. A safe rated 1 hour 350 degrees should protect documents for up to one hour in a normal building fire; if the fire burns too long or too hot the safe will not protect documents. I would like to conceal this with a picture; do you think this would be possible?** A: I concealed mine with a white board that I hung vertically. I cut wood strips about 3/4 inch thick and glued them to the top and bottom of the white board so it just clears the keypad. For a picture or a tapestry, it might be simpler to fasten a wood strip to the wall and hang the picture from the strip. **Q: How is battery life with brand name alkaline batteries?** A: I bought this safe in 2014 and just replaced the original factory batteries today (early 2021). On overage I only use the keypad once a month, but I’m beyond satisfied with the battery life. I’m not sure the batteries would last any longer if they were simply stored in a drawer. **Q: How often do the batteries need to be replaced (if rarely opened)?** A: Personally, I change the batteries every year in my safes and smoke detectors whether they need it or not. The safe arrived in perfect condition and the installation instructions were clear. The only hiccup was that the studs in our wall were slightly off standard size, so my husband had to shave them down a bitβ€”but that was an issue with our house, not the safe. The lock was very easy to set up, and it opens and closes smoothly. My main reason for giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that the electronic locking mechanism in the center takes up a surprising amount of interior space. This means the top shelf, bottom shelf, and the edges of the middle shelf are usable, but a large portion of the middle section isn’t. For someone mostly storing papers or flat items this may not be a big deal, but for us it was an unexpected limitation.
