Loading is VERY stiff. I would suggest loading the shaft by pushing against concrete walkway, side of pool or rock. The more you use, the slightly easier it will be to load. It is made to retain the same pressure for entire life of gun. You should NEVER need to pump it back up. It doesn't lose pressure as you use it, so you should be able to use it for thousands of times without ever needing to re-pressurize. NEVER shoot it out of water though. You shouldn't keep a shaft in it, so if you need to release the shaft & no water is present, place it against pavement, press down against it & pull trigger. As long as you are pressing down against it, it will slowly release the shaft safely.
