When the Answer Phone is triggered, the caller's voice is relayed to all of the active hand sets too. This is called 'Caller Screening' mode. You can switch off 'Caller Screening' on each individual handset, such that the voice is only heard on those handsets that have 'Caller Screening' enabled. When you first set up the phone system, 'Caller Screening' is enabled on all handsets by default. Obviously you can't disable the voice on the Base Unit (i.e. where the Answerphone is physically located, although you can set the Base Unit volume to minimum I guess).
