Review: A Game Changer for My Ampless Rig - I purchased the HeadRush FRFR-112 MKII because I was having a hard time transitioning from traditional guitar amps to an ampless setup. I have a lot of money invested in pedals and amp/cab modeling equipment, including the Strymon Iridium, Walrus Audio ACS1, Neural DSP Nano Cortex, and other amp-modeling gear, along with a large collection of traditional floor pedals. My biggest problem wasn't getting good tones. It was getting those tones to translate consistently from my home setup to a PA system at church or other venues. I had been using high-quality headphones, including relatively flat-response headphones, to dial in my sounds. Everything would sound great at home, but when I took the rig to church, the guitar could sometimes sound fizzy, thin, or just different enough that I would have to spend a lot of time retweaking everything. I decided to try an FRFR speaker, and after doing a lot of research, I specifically chose the 12-inch FRFR-112 MKII. I initially considered the 8-inch and 10-inch versions, but I wanted something that would give me more of the fullness and low-end feel I'm accustomed to from a 12-inch guitar cabinet or a 1x12 combo amp. This thing was a game changer. The first thing I noticed was how much easier it was to dial in my tones. What I hear through the FRFR is much more representative of what I'm actually going to hear when that same signal goes to a PA. Instead of creating a tone at home that sounds great through headphones and then having to completely rethink it at church, I can now get much closer to my final sound before I ever leave the house. I've used it at church and at multiple venues, and it has given me a lot more confidence when I show up. I'm not saying I never have to make adjustments—the room, PA, and sound system will always make a difference—but I'm arriving with my sounds already about 90% where I want them. And the difference compared with headphones is significant. My rig actually sounds like a guitar rig now. The tones have the fullness, low-end response, and physical presence that I'm accustomed to hearing from a good 12-inch guitar amp or cabinet. My amp models and pedals sound much more natural to me, and I find myself spending less time fighting the equipment and more time actually playing. The FRFR-112 MKII is also incredibly simple to use. It's basically plug it in, connect your rig, turn it on, and adjust the volume. I appreciate that because I already have enough complicated equipment on my pedalboard! It also has two inputs, so you can run another source through it if you want, and there's a high-pass filter that can be useful when you need to clean up the low end. I don't personally use the second channel for vocals, but I like having the flexibility there. Yes, the 12-inch version is fairly large, but it fits easily on an amp stand, and you can also use it on the floor. For me, the size is absolutely worth it because of the sound. If you're struggling with an ampless rig and you're constantly tweaking your tones because they sound different through headphones, at home, and through a PA, I highly recommend trying a good FRFR speaker before buying yet another amp modeler or another set of headphones. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just what I needed

I've had the Headrush Pedalboard for a while, and while I've tried it in a handful of configurations in rehearsals including straight to PA, 4-cord method with amps, straight to power amp whilst using only preamp from the board, headphones, etc., I just couldn't love it. It did the job but I dunno, I'm an amp guy, what can I say? Anyway, I wasn't gonna drop $$ on an FRFR I can jam with (like full size headrush or other) just to continue being uninspired. Well, this little guy has me rethinking things. I think I finally "get it" as this is really delivering that FRFR-ness that just matches the track you might be playing with. Why I can never get that feel with headphones/computers is probably because I just love my simple amp experience. This strikes the balance. Now, can I use this to play over a drummer? Absolutely not. Most of my amps, even cheap digitals like the Spark and Peavy Vypyr, could at least get close. No way for this guy. Not to dog it for that (much), because it really sounds great and lower levels and strikes that balance of being fully simulated and coming out of a speaker. I thought too, with the battery, maybe this would be a great BT speaker to bring on my golf cart. nah. I have a JBL and Bose that sound better, and probably louder. So don't think about thing too much in that light. As a multi-purpose room/travel speaker, for sure it functions well enough. But I think the FRFR aspect doesn't deliver music in the very best light. It completely delivers tho when jamming along to tracks mixed with your instrument. Would I use it for anything other than it is designed for? No. But it is great for what it is.
