My 16-17 pound dog fits in it just fine. I bought it because I want to bring my dog with me on a airplane and needed a very light carrier since my dog is already heavy enough to carry around. The carrier with the fleece mat weight about 1.8lb. Its about the same size as the Sherpa just a different shape so its a bit more snug on the top but still comfortable and not as heavy. The only negative is that there is no convenient zipper on the top for the dog to get in. My dog does not like travel bags so its a bit tricky to get him in.
