The plastic is really thin and I'm not sure how it would hold up used by itself. I left the old acoustic ceiling tiles in place and installed these underneath the old tiles. This made for a tighter fit and was able to keep the sound deadening and fire rating of the acoustic tiles. The 3-D look really added something to the overall feel as I did this in a business.
