The King And I: 2-disc [Special Edition] [DVD]

RE-MASTERED MUSICAL GEM: A 'MUST HAVE'!
This wonderful DVD is indeed a collector's item & should be, & probably is, in every film-musical enthusiast's collection! Apart from the film itself, here presented in CinemaScope 55 (The format fully explained & demonstrated in the 'Special Features'), there is a vast amount of information covered in this 2-Disc presentation. There are Sing-along subtitles as an option & a thorough commentary by Richard Barrios (film historian) & Michael Portantiere (musical theatre historian). Thankfully, the talent of the brilliant Marnie Nixon is acknowledged, having dubbed the singing for Deborah Kerr to remarkable effect. Also there is the 'Isolated score' feature which is the music played without the sung lyrics - very unusual. All this on Disc One!Disc 2 contains the TV Show pilot with optional commentary, featurettes, vintage stage excerpts, additional song, the restoration of the cinematic format ( for the technically-minded) together with stills, trailers etcetera, etcetera etc!!I found the whole thing totally enjoyable & an absolute bargain at the price! One of Hollywood's finest musical productions, THE KING & I, has been restored to its original glory, the colours are sharp & the the sound quality is excellent.HIGHLY RECOMMENED.

Would reccomend
Bought this for my 9yr old granddaughter who saw the film on tv and wanted to watch it again. Arrived the same day as purchased which was great. After reading all the reviews I was a bit conserned if it would play in the uk or not so I bought the 2 disc box. Worth every penny, excellent quality. Very happy with my purchase.

Wonderous
Who’d have thought Brynner was serious ill during the making of this due to excessive smoking …. He only had 1 working lung and couldn’t dance for more than a minute

Excellent remastered print.
The media could not be loaded. Such a great remaster of a classic. We watched it in the cinema room and the CinemaScope 55 release was amazing, well worth purchasing to watch in this film format which was only used twice in history, so apart from a nice Rogers and Hammerstein film, the nostalgia of the 55 film is worth every Penny.

A Good Purchase.
I was well happy with this purchase. The dvd although pre used was in excellent condition, it was an amazing low price. It came quite quickly after ordering it and it was packaged very well.It was a delight to watch this old movie once more with the amazing Yul Brynner.
