There is no sugar coating around the story of her relationship, its raw and real and wonderfully truthful. As a Hispanic woman , dating outside of our culture is a step that is nerve wracking due to the fact that culturally we are so passionate and stubborn. Finding someone to relate to , that can understand where you are coming from is rare , in authors and in their work. I loved this book for its simplicity and I shared my copy with a friend. Who is now entranced by the rollercoaster love story of not only Ms. Oredein but of many women written in those pages. To women we don't see muslim , black or white we see the man we love . This relationship took place during their college years and is told from the viewpoint of the woman. She was deeply committed. He was not. The book could have been rated 5-stars but for the fact that I could not believe this girl was so blind to his duplicity for so long. A quick easy unbelievable 2-hour fix. I feel like I was a part of the year long emotional roller coaster following you with each turning page. This is a very relatable book. You can draw parallels with your own experiences that highlights the contradictory nature of humans in this journey called LIFE and the perceived labels we carry around. There is definitely an element of hypocrisy in all of us but the way we choose to execute speaks to our integrity, maturity, and morals.
