It was very well wrapped, and as soon as the plastic was off it popped out to this large rectangular foam, LOL. It was the shape and size that i expected, i guess because this is not memory foam which takes time to conform to its intended shape. the size is accurate for a twin size. I am using it for my side of a king size bed since my hubby doesn't have back problems like i do. of course it raises my side by 3 inches but that's not a problem and i don't usually dress the bed with our comforter during the work week, no time for all that.. haha. the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because although my back feels better this is not as firm as i expected, which i should have known because this is after all just foam. don't get me wrong this is firm but what i don't like is that it sort of feels like memory foam where it's difficult to shift and turn around and my body sinks into it. I don't like that feeling. I want to sleep on top of the mattress, not in it like memory foam and to my knowledge conventional foam is supposed to be firmer in that respect. I am sleeping and feeling okay in the morning but I did wake up a little hotter today even though i covered the topper in a sheet and put it under my king sized fitted sheet as well. So overall it's been working out but I'm not sure if this will be to my liking in the long run. I am thinking of putting the actual topper under the mattress bc i am getting another topper just like this that i had bought for my mom a few months ago but she couldn't use it. i have heard that a firm topper like this might stabilize the bed more so i will try that and if it doesn't work then i'll try it on top of a new firmer mattress I just purchased as well. Before ETA. I unfolded it right away and it was perfect since then. No dents. It is a bit wider than I thought but I think there are different kind of beds.I have a "super wow" expensive matress with tow layers of memory foam. But it just didn't work for me!!! I felt it super soft. When it gets warm, you will sink and feel like in a cocoon with pain in your shoulders, back, neck, and hips (because of the body weight). Just terrible. That's why I tried fixing it with wood, folding the memory foam layers... Didn't work until this topper.I have to say that this is a bit harder than expected. Compared with another matress we have stating a 7 in firmness, I would say it's between an 8 or 9. Probably if you use a memory foam layer you can get a 7.I am getting used to the firmness. The first times I had a sored neck. But I'm giving it a try after all my matress journey!! Ans as it is foam, it will eventually get softer. I've seen videos and ate optimistic :) I still wake up with a bit of pain in the upper back (feeling like no move but is straighter :S ) but my hips are doing great with this topper. For what this mattress pad is meant to achieve, it has. I bought the standard King size 3 inch pad, to help improve the piece of xxxx mattress that we paid more than I care to remember, and which seems to have lasted only short of two years. And neither my wife or I are large, heavy people. Both less than 150 lbs. As I was thinking of the pad on the day of arrival, I was thinking, this is going to be a big box, being a King size, and a 3" pad. But the pad arrived in a relatively smaller box. It was shrink wrapped to death, making the size so much less than I thought, but once the wrap was cut the mattress springs alive. Bong! It fit perfect on the bed, over the piece of xxxx it covered. Placed the mattress protector sheet on top of this new gem and wellya. There wasn't any kind of real smell like I read about from other comments either Mine was fine. I've slept very well every night since I got it. My dogs love it as well, as before, they were also waking up with sore back aches. If I only knew this inexpensive pad worked this well, I would have bought two pads back when I bought the bedroom set, and the twin box springs, and forgot about buying any mattress. These pads would have worked better, and saved me three months of house mortgage payments (the cost I paid for the "you know what".
