The sassafras root bark contains much less safrole than the actual root, which was historically drank as a tea. Many of our customers do use this product to make their own root beer. The study that the FDA hangs their hat on regarding safrole, is flawed, there has been zero research that indicates negative effects in humans. Actually, common household spices like black pepper & Star Anise also contain safrole. If you are looking for a more root beer type of flavor, you would be much happier purchasing our Really Root Beer loose leaf tea it is much less expensive than this material and is tastier.
