Review: Internet disconnects Fixed!!! - Have been having random internet disconnect for over 2 years. Cox replaced cable line from street to house. I replaced modem and cable from house connect to modem at my own expense. Live in older neighborhood with old Cox hubs, which Cox refuses to fix or upgrade. Isolated problem to internet disconnecting when upstream channels had dbmv of 50 or more, which is way too high. As my modem and lines were new, problem had to be Cox, but Cox refused to fix. Found others with same problem and they fixed it with signal booster with Active return. This booster advertises -10dbmv for upstream, or return, AND IT WORKS!!! My upstream dbmvs have dropped to 34-36 from 46-48 average, internet disconnects are gone, video streaming is best I have seen in 2 years. Arris Booster fixed my problem and was cheaper than $75 Cox service call. Very, Very happy!!!
Review: Works very well - Added this for a really long run to my router in my house, BIG difference. Xfinity works really well with it and it has standardized my connection speeds. Highly recommended for a long run if you need it.

## Features

- The BDA-42-1-AR-R is a Bi-Directional Cable TV Amplifier designed for use in homes and is intended for use on cable TV systems only. This is NOT recommended for use with antenna systems (OTA) and it will NOT work with satellite systems. Use one of our PASSIVE Return amplifiers instead.
- Compatible with all standard and digital Cable TV services. This product is NOT MoCA compatible. The amplifier should be installed BEFORE splitters and long cable runs for best results. Installation must occur close to the cable’s entry point for optimal performance.
- Boosts signal by 32x in the forward path and 10x in the reverse path. It is not intended to “fix” a weak signal, only to boost a good one.
- Meets all applicable IEEE surge standards for all output ports, which enhances system reliability. Weather seal and protective coating allow use of the amplifier for indoor or outdoor applications. 36" White connection cable included.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Anyone have experience using this after known splitter or the possibility of splitters (unknown)? In a living space where splitters are inaccessible.**
A: Here's how I'm using my device, and it works great.
My cable signal comes into the house and goes to a 3-way splitter. One of those three splits is connected to this amplifier's input. The amp's output goes to an 8-way splitter that currently feeds six TV-only outlets in my house. Before installing this amp the signal at those outlets was terrible. After installing the amp the signal and pictures are great. It's bi-directional. I have "smart TVs" with WebOS connected and it works fine for watching YouTube, Netflix, etc. It IS described as a signal BOOSTER and it does that well. This is the same brand as the cable modem my ISP provides.

**Q: can this be used with cable that has phone line ?**
A: If you have a broadband cable modem that has a voip phone line - Yes. If you have a DSL modem where phone line pair is the data connection - No.

**Q: How many feet of coaxial cable will this amp keep the signal strong? 500 foot? 1,000 foot?**
A: The answer depends upon whether you are using this for TV only or if you are using it for Internet. It also depends upon the type of coax cable you are using and whether there are any signal splitters in the cable run. The amp provides a forward gain of 15dB and a reverse gain of 10dB. The reverse gain primarily comes into play if you are using this for cable Internet.

Inexpensive RG59 coax has a signal loss of around 7 dB per 100 ft of cable run. If there are no splitters in the run, then the 15dB forward gain would compensate for about 200 ft of cable. If you are using the better quality RG6 cable commonly recommended for cable TV, the loss is about 5-6 dB per 100 ft (depending on TV channel). Thus, the amp would compensate for around 250 ft of coax. If you use the more expensive RG11 coax, the loss is less than 4dB per 100 ft, so the amp would compensate for about 350 ft of coax.

If you add splitters in the line to feed multiple devices, those splitters will reduce the signal significantly. A two way splitter has a loss of about 3.5 dB on each output port. A four-way splitter will have a loss of 7dB on each output port. Thus, any splitter would significantly reduce the length of coax that can be used. Depending upon the application, for very long runs, it might be possible to use multiple drop amplifiers. However, using a higher grade of cable should like LMR-400=75 ohm should be considered first.

If you are using this for Internet, you need to be concerned about the reverse gain as well as the forward gain. Since the reverse gain is only 10dB, you can use about 200 ft of standard RG6 coax.

**Q: does this item comes with a power plug adapter?**
A: Yes. It’s a bit unusual though in that the transformer that plugs into the wall connects with the amplifier box using a supplied length of TV cable wire as shown in the picture. I had never seen this done before. It’s not a problem at all, but you have to be careful to connect the power cable to the correct screw connector on the main unit and not to the input/output sites for the main TV cable line. It’s all well marked, but folks in a hurry and never having seen this before could mess up. My unit works great and I'm a satisfied buyer/user.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Effective and Well-Built
*by M***L on June 27, 2017*

(4 Stars, because I almost never give 5)..I purchased this because I was getting random disconnects of my cable internet service with Xfinity/Comcast..I did extensive "research" (ie read online blogs and forums) before purchasing. I ALSO attempted (unsuccessfully) to resolve the issue in various ways..Mostly by removing whatever splitters I could access, tightening connections, and even cleaning connectors with rubbing alcohol. Nothing worked as I was still getting lots of Uncorrectable packet errors as well as random disconnects and a HIGH (59Dbmv+) Upstream Power Level... SO, after installing this, I not only went from a 64Dbmv to 49-52, I also reduced MOST of the Uncorrectables.. The unit is easy to install, if you've ever done any work with coax/splitters, etc.. The unit does not come with instructions, BUT, the upper left connector is marked as being for the power...The other two are confusing, at first, but the MODEM gets connected to the bottom right connector and the line back to your provider gets connected to the Upper Left connector... The unit DOES get warm, so I wouldn't enclose it in a cabinet, or even necessarily wall-mount it, as it may shorten it's life... I DO NOT think this is an absolute necessity-Except, when you are having signal issues on the upstream side AND don't have the time or patience to deal with your internet provider...Like me! ;) All the components are (seemingly) very high quality-It feels solid in the hand, not lightweight and cheap like most unpowered splitters do.. I'd caution you to NOT buy the 4 port version of this, IF You only have one modem...Like most households..As you'd have at least one port going to waste... The best thing about this purchase so far is that I can once again go to bed at night and know that when I wake up in the AM, my internet connection will still be working! Unless Comcast has yet another service issue in my area..... The next best thing is that it literally arrived in 24 hours! I was lucky in that there's an Amazon or partner warehouse a few tens of miles from me, AND I have Amazon Prime, so it shipped quick! One final thought-Just make sure that you are not powering up devices like this, until you are sure the connections are correct, just in case... All in All, it's not a "gimmick" but has a positive effect on the stability of my connection to Comcast... COULD I have called them and gotten a tech out here to check things out? Yes! WOULD it have taken several phone calls and hours, perhaps days of waiting? YES! Did I have a better than 50% guess that this would alleviate the problem? Again, the answer is yes! SO, ask yourself those basic questions: A. DO I have a high upstream power level? (Greater than 56Dbmv give or take, is bad, anything lower is generally good, but ideal is in the mid to high 40's) B. DO I have enough understanding of coax and coax connections and the data pathway and know which cables go where? C. Do I have $52 burning a hole in my pocket? D. Would I rather spend that money on ice cream? If you answered YES to A, B and C, then what are you waiting for!!!?? BUY THIS NOW! If you answered D..Make mine chocolate please! ;) UPDATE: 1 WEEK LATER: Observations: A. When connected to the line in my office, the modem had MANY, MANY uncorrectable errors, as in the thousands of them..Even with this amp in place...The amp DID bring down the upstream power level as well... B. Even though I had so many errors, I had no dropped connections... C. Once I switched the modem to my living room coax, the errors disappeared..There are now only 2 Correctable errors after 3 days+ D. WITHOUT this amp though, I wasn't even getting connected at all...The modem would flash the download icon, then it would go steady, and then it would flash the upload icon, and then it would go out and it would start flashing the download one again, over and over, for hours if I didn't turn it off.... So when I did move the modem to the living room, without the amp, it still couldn't connect to your cable company, and with it, it not only can, but I have gotten zero errors in several days.... But clearly if you are having a lot of problems like high upstream power levels AND lots of uncorrectable errors, then most likely it's simply a bad cable/connection somewhere and you should call your cable internet provider for help.... This AMP CAN help, but it REALLY shouldn't be necessary if your cable company is keeping it's infrastructure maintained...Keep in mind that if you've had animals under your house or around it, there's a chance they chewed on the cable, so if your problems start suddenly, better check your cables and then check with your provider....
