Review: Beautiful door handle - Looking for a suitable lockable handle for a bedroom, this was the only one suitable. It looks better than others I saw; it has the curved handle and looks really nice. As soon as my wif'e's sister saw it fitted she wanted the same. I have no issues with the quality. The rose may be of thinner metal than others; I have no experience to compare, but this is fine and the handle is very solid and works perfectly. I also bought this model especially to be certain that it was interchangeable between left and right opening doors. I had to change the handle round to fit a left opener. This might be tricky for some. The inner locking nub is quite small due to the type of handle and not as solid as those on a larger front door handle, but unless someone has a disabilty it is easy to turn. I had to replace a different type of handle so it took some time to drill a larger centre hole and two side holes for the rose bolts. When done everything fitted perfectly in the place of the previous handle. So, unless you are replacing an identical type of handle I suggest you have a capable person to fit it
Review: Atrocious build and even worse design. - No apologies, I am going to jump straight in for the jugular : Be aware that not only are the handles slightly different in design to what is pictured, more importantly these handles are a low quality product and designed so badly that, if you value your door that you're intending on fixing these handles on, you should avoid purchasing them at all cost. I had to reverse the handles for the door that I wanted to use this on. This required a total dismantle (as per the supplied instructions) and therefore I got to see how badly and cheaply this has been designed and manufactured. I am aware this is not a £100 or even a £40 set of lockable handles. I don't excuse the operating design for one second, but I understand that for the price this is being sold at, materials & manufacturing costs have to be in-line. This review is for the benefit of making you aware this is NOT a quality product. I would like to counteract and correct all the 4 and 5 star reviews that I read, that originally convinced me in the first place to purchase these handles. I accuse anybody past, present AND future, giving this anything above a 3 star to simply either; not know what they are talking about, exhaling wind out of certain orifices, have only ever installed handles without locks, or most probable - have lived in a field accustomed to nothing more than the simplicity of garden gate latches their entire life. Like I said, no apologies. Now onto the details; • If you are swapping over your handles on an old (existing) door for this product, then be aware that once installed, you will NOT be able to revert back to what you had originally should you change your mind. Due to the springs inside the rose (on both handles) protruding out so much, the rose will not sit flush unless you drill out a very large hole to accommodate the spring AND the fixing screws. [Note: A decent quality handle will house the spring/mechanical parts within the depth of the rose itself]. Because of this design, the size of the hole that is required to fit these handles is so large (54mm diameter all the way through your door), that the door (especially if its a hollow door) will be too weak to accommodate any other 'normal' handle fitting ever again! Note: Read this point again! If that still doesn't put you off from buying this instantly, then you're a braver person than me if our roles were reversed. • Once you've carved out or drilled a hole large enough, the rose sections will sit flush with the door and are rigid. But the handles do to NOT sit flush with the rose sections - there is too much of a gap between the two parts. The handles therefore display a vast amount of movement in the 360 degree & 3D plane. They simply wobble in every direction. I should also mention that the shape of the handle where it butts onto the rose is not circular like the rose. Its more oval shaped and the difference between the two parts when viewed from above is not only ugly, but feels like the two parts come from different style handles that have been merged into one product. • The rose covers and thumb-turn are made from extremely thin metal. Thumb-turn is also hollow - 'Tin' effect is the best word I can use to describe the quality. It's what I would expect at this price range, but don't be fooled believing it's 'quality'. • If these handles are installed with the internal handle positioned on the left side of the door [by having to reverse them first], then you are left with the opening slot of the rose cover (the small rectangular slot) facing upwards. Not very aesthetically pleasing. • To open the door. The handles have to be turned almost 90 degrees down to fully withdraw the latch. Just so you can visualize that - I repeat, the handle has to be turned all the way until its pointing to the floor for it to open!! All other handles I've ever encountered (lockable or otherwise) only require a 45-60 degree downward turn. 90 degrees is so absurd that it sounds like a bad dream - I've even had to pause and physically go the handles and operate them again to convince myself of the reality. • Unless the external handle is raised to its highest position, the internal thumb turn will not always lock the handle. Therefore the following scenarios have to take place for you to be able operate the internal thumb lock successfully: 1) As you step in (to the room) reach out to the external handle, raise it to its highest position - and then SLAM! the door. Hopefully, now the thumb-turn will lock the handle. 2) Step in to the room, closing the door normally via the internal handle. Turn the thumb-turn to the locked position (door handle has NOT yet locked), then raise the internal handle in the upwards direction - in the hope to raise the external handle above the horizontal position. You will automatically hear a small click if you have been successful in locking the door via this technique. However....... • It is worth noting that the design of the spring mechanism allows you to turn the handles also in the upwards direction by 90 degrees [Yes, the handles can be rotated a total 180 degrees!!]. If you turn the handles upwards by 90 degrees, you run the risk of the spring getting temporarily stuck and you will not be able to re-open the door (with or without key or thumb-turn). This technique could actually be used externally to lock someone inside without the need for a key!!! Do the words 'NOT GOOD' come to mind, or are you still thinking this is a 'quality' product? [But - Hey! If you have to break the lock/handles to get out, you can always re-order an identical set of handles again.... or perhaps buy yourself a new door and a different set of handles!] Hopefully this is all academic and by having read this, you won't find yourself in the same position as me. Take my advice : Go and buy something different.
