The last used setting is automatically saved. The countdown begins after a few seconds of pressing start and there is a beeping tone at the end of the set time. One feature I haven't seen in other heat presses is a button to either pause or cancel the current heating session. That could prove to be handy over time by keeping the project timer continuing and prevent overheating a substrate.
