Three important factors that I considered was the instep profile, the diameter of the heal and the quality of the wood. First the instep is important because I have found some of the competition instep was not high enough to fit the profile of the shoe. Secondly I found some of the heals to be made to narrow causing the back of the shoe to become pointed as opposed to rounded. If that is what I wanted I could have oped for just a shoe stretcher. Lastly the wood on some of the other trees used pieces of cedar that was glued together or had excessive amount of knots which in time would result in a crack in my opinion. If I found the wood to be too white it appear to be birch as opposed to cedar. I had even come across one that artificially cedar fragmented so the wood so it appears more genuine. This became quite obvious since the smell was so over powering. You will also find some companies such as Loake have shoe trees that are branded by themselves the only problem is they don't make them. So what is the point of a name if the shoe tree doesn't do the job. I researched Seeadler before buying and from what I know they manufacture shoe trees, that it.
