I would recommend this very highly for holding lighting and sound gear and, with a sandbag on the highest leg, it's not going anywhere. It comes in essentially three parts, the leg section (which just unfolds and snaps into place), the upright pole and then then the boom arm with two adjustable grip heads. The cushioning is excellent (being a combination of spring and air) so no crashing gear and no nipped finger tips and all of the fixtures feel pretty bomb proof. Very happy indeed! The only negative is it weighs an awful lot so don't expect to be carrying it too far - but it is exactly this that makes it so solid. You can't have it both ways.
