Is there a way to recover the data?** A: No, unlike mechanical drives which can have data recovered from them after failure, SSD and Memory sticks are dead when they fail. There are ways to write to the memory stick index (where the computer accesses to see available space and to see where on the stick files are stored) after failure to trick the stick into believing it's ok, but it's hit and miss, a lot of messing about with opened up memory stick and hair sized wire attached to microscopic contacts, etc. If the data is very valuable then take it to a pro-recovery firm. It will cost a lot of money but they have ways to get the data along the lines of replacing components in the memory stick, resetting buffers, writing to the index and so on. **Q: is this compatible with windows 8?** A: My pleasure, Anne. I saw it as a Kingston at a very good price per GB, so I didn't mind if it was slower than the newest ones. I was surprised. The read speed is quite constant, at about 100 mb/s, with peaks of 102. The write speed behaves in a funny way. It goes up and down, in a saw pattern. It goes up gradually, reaches about 50 mb/s, then drops sharply to 0, then goes up again and repeats the cycle until it finishes. I can't say the write speed with accuracy, but it should be 25, as it's the average between 50 and 0. The pattern can be seen in the picture. If you need a good, reliable storage, with a decent transfer speed, and the best price for a Kingston; this is the one.
