Before installing into the front sight, I cut the fiber slightly longer than the length required. I held a lighter flame close enough to "mushroom" one end of the fiber. I then installed into place, with the "non-mushroomed" end at the muzzle. With a bit of the fiber rod extending out the front of the sight, I held a lighter flame close enough to "mushroom" the front end. This makes both ends of the now installed fiber rod a bit thicker than the hole in the front sight that the fiber slides into. This secures the newly installed fiber rod into the sight. Tested and it looks like the new fiber rod captures light well. The red may be a little like pinkish red, but it works fine and the price is certainly right. Glad I purchased these.
