Its quite substantial. i think you just need to position it to suit your needs. Hubby uses it sideways because his left side doesnt work. Good support if you are unsteady. It can be tucked underneath the sofa for extra support. **Q: Surely this must tilt when pulling it back to get out of a chair.** A: We use it for leaning down on. It might tip if pulled hard although the feet are long enough to make it pretty stable.
