They work almost just as well but frankly, unless you're trying to hang something ridiculous up, it shouldn't be a problem. I use these to hang up post cards, thinner cardboard thank you style notes, multiple sheets of paper, and pictures, all without a problem. They don't start falling down either like some magnets do after opening and closing the fridge.
