It worked great with the 3.3V from the GPIO pins.To get this working, I had the positive voltage from the power source connected to my load (the positive side of the load), then the negative/ground voltage from the power source connected to the Source pin (right pin when looking at it from the "front"), the Drain pin (middle pin) connected to the negative side of my load, and the Gate pin (right pin) connected to the GPIO pin of the Raspberry Pi.
