It truly does lay flat. The cover is soft and supple and the pages are smooth. Writing on it with my fountain pen and nib is a dream. There’s no bleed through either! I would prefer that the "wide rules" we're so "wide." In other words, the lines are farther apart than I anticipated. It is described by the seller as "Executive" (which I am), but gaps between the lines remind me of elementary school and waste precious space. The main reason I returned it, though, was that the date options at the top are printed so faintly and in such a small font as to be unusable. I was specifically looking for this type of dating, where all months and dates are printed at the top of each page and you circle the ones that describe the date of your notes. That system in my opinion is the best for what I do. Unfortunately, the tiny washed-out looking font makes that completely unusable.
