I usually leave it in overnight and let it freeze over but then plug it in until it thaws just enough to use. If I let it heat up it could be 0 degrees outside and the water would get to like 52 degrees. So it definitely works but if you want to have cold ice baths it can be hard to plan so the ice melts but it doesn’t get too “warm”.
