## Description

2 Lamp F40T12 ES 120 volt Electronic Linear Fluorescent Universal Ballast

Review: Priced better than HD - Worth the 3 week wait time. Priced $10 per unit cheaper than Home Depot. Installed and working.
Review: Works as a OEM replacment -- check compatibility though - So my garage lights -- typical florescent 4 ft long bulbs that you typically see in garages etc. -- started to flicker then eventually not turn on. I am fairly handy however, not an electrician or electrically inclined ( I can swap out outlets, install timers, ceiling fans, light fixtures however, get a little lost on three way switches and things like that). My first instinct was to change the bulb. Did nothing. I probably should have done an internet search on the issue as my problems tend not to be unique. However, I didn't and just put the task off as my three- bay garage got darker and darker as they each began to fail. A family member told me it's most likely the ballasts. Of course he was correct. The important thing is to TURN THE POWER OFF AT THE BREAKER then take the outside plastic cover off, bulbs out, and pop the center "cover" off the unit. Probably can be done by squeezing the cover inward to remove it from its slots. This will reveal the electrical workings of the fixture, including the ballast. Check the wires coming out of your particular ballast and make sure you have the same ones as this product. Take a picture with your phone of the original ballast and then search for ballasts. Mine did, save the yellow wires were on the other side of the unit. Remove the old ballast and simply wire nut the new ones in matching same color to same color. I pre stripped the wires on the original to about an inch and the same on this unit. Twisted them together, trimmed the excess, then capped them off with a wire nut. I did buy a pack of colored wire nuts. You may need to if you don't have a lot laying around. Need 6 per unit -- the black and white wires on the original should be connected with a nut on original installation - these can be reused. Doesn't really matter what color the nuts are. I guess you could simply twist and wrap with electrical tape too. This unit was longer than the original so it did not mount into all the originals places, however one bolt holds it in/up and some double sided foam tape can hold the other. this unit is considerably lighter than the original. Pop the breaker back on after and should work like new. Note: working above your head is difficult. Use a ladder that is as close to the unit as possible that can be safely done, this will save your arms, especially when you have more than one to do.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: will it work for 2 40 watts t12?**
A: Yes, this ballast should work for either 34 watt or 40 watt. Hope this helps.

**Q: Will this ballast replace a magnatek 438-l-tc-p that runs 2 t40 48" bulbs**
A: This what you asked about: Magnatek 438-l-tc-p ballast that runs 2 t40 48" bulbs. What you must have meant was 2 T12 48" 40 watt bulbs. And the answer is "YES"... this ballast will run two T12 48" 40 watt bulbs. (T12 bulbs are standard 1 1/2" diameter bulbs. T8 bulbs are 1" diameter bulbs).

**Q: Does this ballast have nine wires?**
A: When counting ballast wires you don't add in the power wires. Because one ballast may have black white and green for ground. And a different may only have black and white because the ground is internal. This ballast has a total of 8 wires, but again don't add the power wires and it has 6 to the lamps. 2 blue, 2 red and 2 yellow. This is standard Rapid Start Wiring which is most common wiring in fluorescent lighting. So if you have a different brand, don't count the power wires and if you have 6, 2-red, 2-blue and 2-yellow this would wire exactly same.

Also another word of advice, don't try to count wires to see if its the same. There are plently of ballasts that are rare that may also have 6 wires to the lamps, but wire completely different with 3 yellow, 2 red, 1 blue and be for 3-4 light bulbs. If you ever need help crossing a ballast from one you cannot find PLEASE contact SEMPERLITE. We would love to help you even if you do not buy from us, or buy our items on amazon, we like to help make sure you get the correct item the first time, as too many sellers give false or invalid information and then don't take owenership when they make their errors. Again please contact SEMPERLITE if you ever need any help.

**Q: will this ballast replace ADVANCE model RL-134-TP?**
A: I can't speak for the particular ballast you mentioned. I bought the one I got based solely on the number and types of lamps it was said to work with (in this case two 40 watt 4 foot long tubes). I do recall the wiring diagram that came with it wasn't exactly like what was already in the fixture, but I did follow it. Also, it was a somewhat different physical size than that being replaced and it was necessary to drill at least one new hole in the fixture so that, with one of the existing holes for the old ballast, the new ballast was held in place with two screws.
