## Description

desertcart.com: Antlion Audio ModMic Uni 2 Attachable Noise-Cancelling Microphone with Mute Switch, Compatible with PCs, Gaming Consoles, Handheld Devices, and More : Electronics

Review: Excellent quality, great upgrade - I work remotely and am on calls from my PC throughout the day. This new ModMic has been a huge upgrade for me, personally and professionaly. No longer am I wearing the ghastly mid-grade work-supplied "gaming" headset which squashes my ears, aches my head, garbles my voice, and saps my very will to remain conscious at all, which of course affects the various meetings I'm forced to be in. No longer - enter the ModMic! I've had it hooked up for a very short time to my beloved Sennheiser open-back over-ear headphones, and already it's a huge improvement to both the general quality and clarity of calls (excellent audio from the ModMic, and of course studio-grade audio from the Senns - how do people tolerate these gaming headsets I cannot fathom), and a big improvement to my general demeanor. Colleagues have already commented on these positive changes! The simplicity of the design is appreciated: while previously I was sporting the garish and distracting neon green (and *glowing*, for heaven's sake!) gaming headset, with a massive boom mic in front of my face (to what end do they make these mics so BIG -- why? Do they imagine their target consumer feels the need to subtly overcompensate for diminished stature elsewhere?), the ModMic is stylishly and confidently minimalistic yet eminently functional. As my colleagues in the UK would say: "it does what it says on the tin" and it does it elegantly. The build quality is excellent. The design is thoughtful - spare clips included so you can use the ModMic on multiple sets of headphones without any fuss. Ample cable length, with clips to lead it along my existing headphone cable - no further mess of individual cords. Easy mute switch well-located. Cord non-tangly so far! Thank you AntLion Audio team for designing and building an excellent product with the ModMic Uni 2. Highly recommended.
Review: One of the worst products I've purchased - I don't normally leave product reviews but this is one of the worst pieces of gear I have purchased in a long while. The good -When the planets align and you are holding the mic in the perfect spot directly in front of your mouth...it doesn't sound all that bad. Just don't move your head and keep holding it. The Bad -Immediate reaction to unboxing this $60 dollar microphone was an overwhelming sense of cheapness. I've heard about the Antlion brand for years in a positive context but this was not was I was expecting. Everything here is a let down. The cable quality (that thin type of cable that always seems to retain the bends). The plastic screw-mount that the boom is magnetized to is far too weak. The mute switch housing is downright embarrassing. The casing literally came apart when I flipped the switch the first time. I thought maybe it was held together with some sort of snaps or adhesive but I have no idea how it's expected to stay together the way it's designed. -You see several reviews here mentioning issues with the magnetic sticky base. They arent wrong. Out of the box the base's adhesive was worthless due to the protective backing being haphazardly offset thus making most of the backing weak. Always cool to have to resort to the backup sticky pad minutes after opening. -My plan was to attach this to a pair of wired Sony XM4s. The initial issue was I needed to mount it on the left side so that the cable of the modmic would be in parallel with the 3.5mm cable of the XM4s. By default the ModMic Uni 2 is designed to mount to the right side of a pair of headphones. In no way did I think this would be an issue but they found a way. Their solution for converting the orientation it to the left side is to literally re-bend the mounting end of the boom (not the boom itself). The result of which makes your new $60 mic look like a twisted up pixie stick. If you need to convert the orientation I highly recommend maybe just twisting the boom itself and then reversing the mounting screw base. The issue with that I noticed is that the boom likes to start untwisting. Either way this is such a sloppy "solution" that could've been engineered several other ways. Or just engineered period. -The mic itself. So before mounting this now mangled thing to my pair of $250 headphones I wanted to test the thing first. I connected it up to a GoXLR via a Rode VXLR Plus XLR to 3.5mm adapter. Apparently Antlion previously to sold one of these adapters up until Spring 2025. Prob for the best it's retired if this was their quality bar. Anyway, no issues with the mic itself initially until it came to testing the positioning of the boom to the mouth. I quickly discovered this microphone struggles with range. Reducing the software gate to 0% I found myself cutting out when the boom was about halfway between my ear and mouth. The thing is....that's as far as I would be able to feasibly mount these on this set of headphones. I understand this might be more a fault of the headphone not having enough surface area but there's no reason it should struggle to pickup audio an inch away from my mouth. I switched to a direct 3.5mm connection to try and eliminate software variables with the mixer. Same thing. The only way I could get it to pick up voice consistently was to remove the the gate entirely and boost the gain to a ridiculous level. The obvious result was distorted audio. The irony was it would pickup a fan 10 feet behind me at times but couldn't register me. Overall -This was an astoundingly disappointing product to receive. In the post-2020 world it's become more common to buy tech that has obvious quality issues in certain departments. But this was a situation where every single aspect of this product was flawed. It's not even one of those situations where I'd say "well this wouldnt be too bad if it was priced in the $20-30 range". No, this is just a bad product. It's a bummer the Audio-Technica ATGM2 is discontinued.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If you love your current headphone, this mic its the best add on you could buy
*by R***. on January 24, 2025*

For context I have paired this with an Audio Technica ATH R70x (a Japanese open-back reference headphones with good soundstage and positioning that is being sold on amazon for about $350). The mic is used mainly for gaming. The headphones for music listening and gaming. Both are connected to a Sound Blaster AE-9 (a really nice sound card). I purchased this mic to keep my current headphone (love its sound signature) and avoid mayor spending on a good combo set. So as a gamer perspective, great audio quality as is! My Helldivers 2 team actually noticed the improvement and clarity of my voice and asked my if I had changed my mic. I haven't used any audio enhancement from my sound card. This mic falls to the expensive side of the spectrum as you could buy a cheap lavalier mic for $10 of a full headphone + mic gaming set for the price of this mic. However you could also spend 20 times it's price and only get a 30% improvement on specs.... That doesn't necessarily makes it worthwhile but this is not the most expensive stuff. By the way, regarding quality, I was explained by may teammates that you could get away with a cheaper alternatives by enhancing audio with software. However on gaming you want your compute resources dedicated to get more FPS. The sticker that comes with te mic is good enough. I have been using it since the end of September 2024 without failing. The mic doesn't add noticeable weight to the headphone. My headphones are very light weighted so this mic is perfect for me.
